I have planted watermelon and squash next to each other , a friend of mine says that these cannot be planted close to each other because they will cross-pollinate.

I done some checking from what Iv read on the net and its says

(A. No. Although watermelon varieties cross with one another, cross-pollination is not apparent unless seeds are saved and planted the following year. Watermelons do not cross with muskmelons, squash, pumpkins or cucumbers. The poor quality of your melons may result from wilting vines, high rainfall, cool weather or a short growing season in extreme northern areas.)

so I wanted check with you folks to see also.

No, most hybrids wont cross pollinate anyway. But be careful with non hybrids and potatoes of different colors being close to one another, they will cross polinate.

red and white potatoes that mix dont keep or taste very good.
