I am looking into getting a Aug or a MSAR with my tax return, Is there a difference between the 2? I want something I can trust my life to, also do they take m16 mags, I have a crapload of them.

    the aug takes its own
the msar e4 takes ar mags, most take the aug style
    cdnn has the mags cheap
    i have a 16" msar
it runs great and it handy w a 1-4 leupold on it
i have not had a malfunction yet, even though it is still new (maybe 500 rounds thru it)

also i am impressed with the contruction.
i heard you can send it back to get the nato magwell on it, but i am too cheap (i think it was $400)

I wish mine took ar mags, but i like the msar ones also. came with 5 -30rd and i got 3 more 42rds
mine is like this one, with a leupold vx-11 1-4*20 on it

I got one of the first MSAR's that came out, and then got a 20" barrel for mine. Love the thing. Only 4 fail to extract in the first 100 rounds and NONE since. Thing feeds all the ammo i feed it. Either gun will work just fine, but Steyr was having someone else make their gun here in the states, and that company went under recently. Saber defense iirc. I like the original mags as well, they are higher but all of them work well, same cannot be said for some ar mags although they are cheap enough.

You can get a NATO stock for the AUG, it takes AR mags ... its been available for about 20 years, I've had one on my A2 for roughly 10 years ... this is it with a few accessories

    Steyr_AUG_A2.jpg

The AUG will always hold its value and I've never had any problems with mine ... I've heard good and bad things about the MSAR but they used to have good customer service I don't know if that's still the case or not.
If you really desire something, you'll find a way ?
? otherwise, you'll find an excuse.

The bullpup design has a trigger that many people do not like. If you get one, you might want to look into the "Trigger Tamer" I installed one in mine, and with a little adjusting on the rods, it REALLY made a difference. Shortened up the travel distance, and cut the pull in half.

I have used my Steyr as my rifle in 3-gun matches for years, and have never experience ANY problems. I would trust my life with it.

I have an older imported one, just missed picking up an A3 locally the other day. Guy ahead of me got it. DARN. Want to try one of those made in the USA ones.

I had my name on the list to get a MSAR when they were first coming out. But after the problems they had with the first batch (as it turned out, they had good customer service and fixed) I took my name off the list and decided to wait for a while. I got sidetracked and never did get one. Have heard they do OK now. Up to 4th gen.

If they werent so expensive I wouldve got one by now. Is that the Rifle that has all that storage space inside the stock for spare parts?

The AR standard stock has about 3x the storage in the stock

No, its got the action in the stock, reducing overall length significantly.

Can't store much in the stock because the stock is full of functional parts, rather than being just "filler" between your shoulder and the rifle as in conventional weapons.

Yes I would stake my life on it's reliability. If I were allowed to carry it on patrol it would be riding with me more than my ar does.

MSAR had QC issues. I believe they had to quit manufacturing it, which is too bad, because they put some great features on it that made me really want one.

I think FN makes a nice .223 bullpup as well, just to throw some more options at you.

Thank you for all then info, The locak gun shop has a aug with the special receiver for 2800. If I get it I think it will be my last one, the funny part is we went in there looking for a M1a and I started thinking about how I reload for 223 and all the ammo I already have and why would I want to get another set of dies and all the extra cost for going with a 308 when I have all the 223 items already. I will be getting a Aug, if they dont have it I will get 2 MSAR's I really want one in tan and another in green, so I will be painting it, I am also looking on the auctions for deals My wife said I can take some of my tax return and I plan on putting it towards one of these rifles.

also I like the railed system and not the scope that is built onto the receiver.

I had a Special Receiver back in 99 or maybe 2000 ... until I discovered the A2 it was also my favorite because you could attach STANAG rings, Styer rail for their QD rings or a picitinny rail.

I got the MSAR STG-556, two of em, they both shoot into 1.5" or less at 100. they function flawlessly, but take down the first 20 or so times can be alittle agrovating as the tolerances are tight.

If you want a MSAR rifle that takes AR mags get the MSAR E4. MSAR makes caliber coversions for 7.62x39, 5.45x39.5, and 6.8x43remington.

when I can I am going to get a AUG/A3, there is a NATO conversion that will switch it from AUG mags to STANAG or AR mags. I like the A3 because the optics rail is an integral part of the upper reciever and the optics mounting pltform has more space to mount optics.

If I has to choose between the two, I'd probably go with the AUG/A3.
