Also, since nobody is going to know what went wrong with that plane until its recovered, spending money to recover it is an INVESTMENT in helping make sure it doesn't happen again.
If your loved one were on that flight and missing, I don't think you'd think it was wasted money to look for it.

I don't see how loving someone on the plane makes much difference.
Also, it looks like there is a near certainty that the plane was diverted on purpose, and flew for some time. The CVR only loops a couple of hours, and will be of little help. The FDR will show the whole flight, but it will, more than likely confirm the fact that when a plane runs out of fuel, the engines stop spinning and the wings lose lift as the airplane loses airspeed.
The most important thing is to find confirmable evidence that the plane is somewhere. If debris is found in the Southern Indian Ocean, it really doesn't matter if any part of the plane is recovered.

Would you say that if your wife, kid, father etc. Were on the flight?? Just a question
But really beyond anything else its an investment that can save money later as well.

Obviously I can't say for certain, though I suspect I wouldn't feel much differently. Dead and gone is dead and gone, after all.
As stated, if what is suspected is actually what happened, I don't see any potential for savings in the future. A rogue pilot is a risk we will continue to take whenever we fly, and there is nothing that can be found in the recorders or inspecting the wreckage that will help if that is indeed what happened.
There is a remote chance that it was something else, but if the plane continues to elude us, there will come a time when the search will be terminated. Deciding when that time will be is going to be political decision more than anything else.

fair enough. But your right if its that one in a million pilot thats going to do what hes going to do, not much to learn. Security and backgroun can always be looked at.
Im not so sure we can point a finger in any direction or discount any theory at this point. Which I think makes it valid beyond anything else to find the thing. Because if it does happen to be mechanical, to find that 50 cent fuse that brought down a multi million dollar aircraft it would be worth it in the future, as factor cost of the aircraft, cost of insurance policies on everything and everybody, cost of recovery etc. Spending millions now could double your investment later.
But I would also agree it comes to a point of hey, we just dont know, are we at that point I dont know. I also do believe government have a obligation to give their citizens answers.
Not at the price we are paying.....and we put to much value on human life. Dead is dead...gone is gone...wasting money on this search of the Southern Ocean is folly a best! Its news worthy because nothing else is at this time...its not even and American Aircraft..get real! Why doesn't China use their wealth to find the Chinese people on that flight?I would rather the govt. spend my tax dollar on EBT cards, not some Malaysian Lost Airplane.
I believe China and other nations have provided the bulk of the assests and the US has had a minor role. There were 4 americans on board.
There were three Americans on board. We could cut some Nancy Pelosi booze and congressional junket flights to save the money needed to search for these folks and bring peace to the families.
