now some judge says college athletes can unionize their sport...what's next ...go on strike for better grades, choice of the cheerleaders, retirement, remedial tutors to offset ebonics, shop steward would call the plays... would think some colleges would slam the doors shut..

Yeah, they screwed themselves. They can unionize. But they also get to pay 10x the tuition and they will have a clause to pay the school a percentage of any pro salary they get. Just like what happened @ saturday night live. sick and tired of making people stars and getting nothing for it, the current stars sign a contract and must pay SNL a commission of their movie earnings.

In case you didn't know why the talent pool took a serious dive.

It's just a bunch of profiteers looking to get pay for college athletes so that the "managers" can get their cut. Then Alabama, Florida and the rest could be known for what they are: NFL Minor League Football.

I see and understand both sides of this, I played 4 years of college ball. I understand the fustration of a player struggling to make ends meet while the coach is paid millions of dollars a year and the school itself making 10's of millions off of the program, they could not make it without the players. Scholarships do not cost the school a dime and they could not make the money they do without using them. Now I dont belive the players should be paid the big bucks but when a players requirements does not even leave time to hold down a part time job ,I see no reason they should not be taken care of in a legal way, if you think they are not paid under the table now you need to grow up. When I played between classes and the program, even in the off season most days were a full 10 to 12 hours a day .

At least health care should be addressed, many players are subject to injuries that they must pay out of pocket for the rest of their life. I also think proctions in academics as well as recruiting should be included. Paid no just like you said.

The problem with the proposal is as with any proposal at least one person ends up getting screwed. it will generally be the student athlete for which the change was intended to help; but like most programs, those that benefit are not the original person, but all of those carpetbaggers that got in on the action.

They need to do what the SEC does.......

Get the player a job at a car wash making $150 an hour.

I guess I was never that good, now this was in the early 80's but I did have a job at a pizza joint "weekends only during off season" that paid $40 an hour ,,it did supply a company car to make deliveries that I kept all week though

This could come back to bite Them on the -ss.
Maybe Colleges will stop giving out Scholorships because of this.

I doubt that, colleges make way too much money off the sports programs. Which is what is causing the issue to begin with.

The greedy little bastids have overlooked one thing: The moment they declare they are pros, the NCAA will banish them from play.

What part of "amateur" escapes them? If these football hulks want to be paid athletes instead of student athletes, fine. Let them compete concussion to concussion with NFL players. Right out of high school. The same goes for basketball, tennis, golf, or even chess teams. You want to be a pro? Compete with the pros.

While we're at it, if schools have to pay their "students" to play sports, then they should also require the "students" to take full class schedules in real courses and at full tuition, no class cuts for practice, and reserve all scholarships for scholars.
    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.
