Robert E. Lee said ?I pray that, on this day when only peace and good-will are preached to mankind, better thoughts may fill the hearts of our enemies and turn them to peace.? In this spirit we denounce the hatred being leveled against our glorious ancestors by radical leftists who seek to erase our history, and we will continue to fight these battles in court or by any and all other lawful and peaceful means. We likewise mourn the loss of life and repudiate in the strongest terms attempts by any group that advocates hatred, bigotry or violence towards others to use our symbols, or otherwise undertake to tarnish the good and glorious name of the Confederate soldier.

He was, indeed, a great man.

    http://scvmi.blogspot.com/2015/

On Christmas Day of 1862, General Robert E. Lee wrote these thoughts in a letter to his wife:

"My heart is filled with gratitude to Almighty God for His unspeakable mercies with which He has blessed us in this day, for those He has granted us from the beginning of life, and particularly for those He has vouchsafed us during the past year.? What should have become of us without His crowning help and protection?? Oh, if our people would only recognise it and cease from vain self-boasting and adulation, how strong would be my belief in final success and happiness to our country!? But what a cruel thing is war; to separate and destroy families and friends, and mar the purest joys and happiness God has granted us in this world; to fill our hearts with hatred instead of love for our neighbours, and to devastate the fair face of this beautiful world!? I pray that, on this day when only peace and good-will are preached to mankind, better thoughts may fill the hearts of our enemies and turn them to peace. ...? My heart bleeds at the death of every one of our gallant men."

The gallant men of the south were not the only ones to suffer. The sting of war touched nearly every southern home where wives, mothers, sisters, and children were left to wonder about the fate of their husbands, sons, brothers, and daddies. Surely at no time was this sting felt more acutely than at Christmas time.

In writing to his daughter, Agnes, on the day after Christmas in 1862, Gen. Lee described seeing the suffering of those left behind at home. He wrote: "I have seen the ladies in this vicinity only when flying from the enemy, and it caused me acute grief to witness their exposure and suffering.? But a more noble spirit was never displayed anywhere.? The faces of old and young were wreathed with smiles, and glowed with happiness at their sacrifices for the good of their country.? Many have lost EVERYTHING.? What the fire and shells of the enemy spared, their pillagers destroyed.? But God will shelter them, I know.? So much heroism will not be unregarded."

Robert E Lee was a true American Patriot.

He knowingly risked everything when he was forced to decide between being a tool of tyranny or a soldier for freedom.

He chose the latter from a deep sense of duty and fidelity. Duty and fidelity not only to his native Virginia, but to the greater moral cause created by the Declaration of Independence and given life by the Constitution of the United States of America.

To thrust upon him and his memory nothing but evil and hatred is a travesty, and reflects only the ignorance and evil intent of the fascist left in America today.
Freedom and a submissive populace cannot co-exist.

The left seems to put racism as an evil above all others. I happen to disagree with them.
Some will die in hot pursuit
    And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
    Coming down the mountain

A man of beliefs and morals, sadly lacking among today's men.
Why don't we go to school and work on the weekends and take the week off!

His motivations were unique to him.

A truly honerable man. I know most here are aware. But an interesting take on the end of the war.

He did more to unite the states than he ever did to separate them.

"To thrust upon him and his memory nothing but evil and hatred is a travesty, and reflects only the ignorance and evil intent of the fascist left in America today.". Well said Don, but that's what some of the country has become. I'm sorry to say that I see it just it getting worse.

...I first learned about Gen. Lee when I attended Robert E. Lee school...I read his biography, and at that point in time I was 10 years old....It instilled pride in me for being a son of the south. My parents taught me pride about my Heritage.....God bless Alabama, and God Bless America!
