Airbus is making history with its decision to create an A320 Family jetliner final assembly line in Mobile, Alabama, which will become company's first U.S.-based production facility.

This game-changing plan was announced on July 2, 2012 by the Airbus senior management team during a special event held in Mobile, with the presence of Alabama officials, airline customers, industry suppliers, Airbus employees and local guests. A ceremony in April 2013 marked the beginning of construction for the $600-million facility, with aircraft assembly scheduled to begin in 2015 and the first delivery targeted for 2016.

At full capability, the assembly line and associated facilities will employ 1,000 highly skilled workers.

For the production of its jetliners, Airbus spends 42 percent of its aircraft-related procurement in the U.S. - buying more parts, components, tooling and other material from the United States than any other country. Workers in more than 40 states help build Airbus aircraft, supporting 226,000 high-quality jobs across the U.S. Airbus is the largest export customer for the United States aerospace industry.

I'm hoping it will cause an influx of intelligent people like Huntsville saw during the space race.
A number of local high schools have added an aviation elective to the curriculum.

Good times are on the way if we can stay out of WWIII.

Wouldn't count on that. If they are still planning to put it at Brookley, the majority of well-paid workers will probably try to live on the Eastern Shore, and just come over to Mobile for work. And the I-10 Bridge will continue to mark the informal segregation line....

And the project is employing a large number of construction workers during the build. States like AL, TX and SC understand bringing jobs is key to a strong economy.

Ground has already been broken. The first plane is schduled to come off the line in 2016. Since I live in Baldwin County, what happens in Mobile County directly affects all the adjoining counties. It also affects local elections.
It appears from NOLA to Pensacola, it's going to be the Neo Miracle Strip.

Why would they put it down in the South? They may have a hard time getting union representation down there.
Camden New Jersey was building more ships in 1945 than any other place in the world. Why don't they build the Airbus in Camden?

Alabama Dry Dock and Shipbuilding (ADDSCO) built 102 T-2 tankers in 4 years....

Please remind me that when this occurs, I don't want you in my trench with me. I believe in optimism, even when it looks like you're about to get your * kicked. Been there, done that and the saying is true: "when the going gets tough, the tough get going." I have no problem "stacking chinks" here or abroad. They bleed and die like everyone else does. [^]
Trust me, I wouldn't want to be in any trench with you...War is survival, ask any real veteran....Besides your a Yankee...[:o)]
