Talking to a friend on Facebook and found out their 3yr old daughter was playing in the water at Biloxi beach and ended up getting a nasty rash on her feet that worsened by the weekend. Took her to the hospital and was diagnosed with flesh eating bacteria and possibility of losing one of her toes.
The city is not making this public, probably for fear of losing tourism. WLOX is going to run a story on this tonight supposedly.
With all the dead fish, sick porpoise etc.makes me think that the BP ordeal has everything to do with this.

More than likely the bacteria is a result of the water temperature increase during the summer.
Alge blooms are not uncommon this time of year.
One woman lost her leg due to the bacteria.

The problem with contaminated beaches is also in the waters along Mississippi and Florida gulf coasts.
What the spill released deadly bacteria from the deep?

More and more it is being chalked up to sewer leaks. But the utilities refuse to admit it.
Flesh Eating Bacteria is common in the wild, but rare. Yes it is common but rare in the Gulf.

It's bad stuff, and has been in the news some here.
All I know is I spent 15yrs growing up on the Coast and was in the water on almost a daily basis. Never heard of this problem until after that spill.quote:Originally posted by wiz1997

My FIL suffered some bacterial disease from the waters around Dauphine Island about 15 years ago...this stuff has nothing to do with BP, at least I don't think so...My FIL nearly lost an arm...This has been going off and on for as long as I have lived on the coast...Vibrio Vulnificus...the flesh eating disease...http://www.accuweather.com/en/weather-news/deadly-flesh-eating-bacteria-kills-two-florida-warm-water-beach-threat/48864465
