Today at Publix grocery store......

Ok....I'm not one to let someone have a problem around me without trying to help (a little, I'm pretty lazy, so lets don't think I'll move furniture for any of you guys.) I see a lady that has OBVIOUS mental issues at the grocery store today. She stops her transaction....pushes her buggy back into the store....to go verify the cost of her items. Let me just add that her buggy has LUGGAGE in it....so, its a visual treat as much as a mental experience to try to figure out what is going on.
The checkout lady says "I'm SO sorry, I don't know what is going on" I tell her I'm fine and I plan on giving everyone pure hell when I'm older so this is perfectly ok with me.
The lady comes back with her buggy full of luggage and starts telling the checkout lady to put some things back. I pull out money and tell her to keep her things and just complete the transaction.....handing over $30. Everything good.....lets move forward!
The checkout lady says "are you paying with a card or cash?" The lady holds up a card......the checkout lady asks "do you want the WHOLE amount on the card, or are you paying part with cash?" The lady says....both. Checkout gal says "hand me the cash so I know how much goes on your card. The cashier says "your total is $65 on your card."
It takes the gal a few tries to figure out how the card actually goes into the machine.
Here is where it gets good.......
Then......the lady pushes the CASH BACK button. She gets $100 cash back.
I'm not complaining. I'm just really REALLY appreciating how lucky I am to not be that poor gal. I'm pretty spoiled by how little real "hurdles" I have to get passed.

LF I have found that the self check out is the best thing ever invented. Its slow and I have had to learn to use it but I don't have to interact with anyone and when I have a problem a nice person comes and helps me. Cupons are never rejected by some coupon nazi and I only deal with a stupid machine that knows how to make change.
I wouldn't have gotten behind her, but I saw a clear register with the bags all ready to go. I figured she was just paying and leaving. I started putting my items up on the conveyor belt and had my buggy unloaded when she started walking off (pushing that buggy full of luggage back into the store.)
The poor little gal that worked there was having a hard time dealing with the situation. I just felt bad for the lady. There is no telling what kind of mess this person has to deal with every day. I think people that are able to PARTIALLY navigate things deserve a little help from people around them.
I made the mistake of getting behind some extreme couponer a few weeks ago and they were nitpicking about everything. I was starting to get pretty steamed at them until I found out that they were getting things for the churches food pantry.
BTDT and I got the t-shirt[:D]
Self check out is your friend.............[;)]
U really think so??? She got $30 out of you then got $100 cash back...
Who got "taken"??
At least I think that's how it went. The story is kinda hard to really understand..[:D]
I read this somewhere???[;)]
""It was raining hard and a big puddle had formed in front of the little Irish pub. An old man stood beside the puddle holding a stick with a string on the
end and jiggled it up and down in the water.
A curious gentleman asked what he was doing. 'Fishing', replied the old man.
Poor old fool, thought the gentlemen. So, he decided he would invite the old man to have a drink in the pub. Feeling he should start some conversation while they were sipping their whiskey, the gentleman asked, 'And, how many have you caught today?'
The old man replied 'You're the eighth.' ""

Publix does not have self checkout. But I do use it at Kroger's when I can.
There has been an urban outdoorsman in either a wheelchair or scooter hanging around our Publix. I only saw them inside once, but clearly this person has serious issues....
I said no way, that's over $100.00 easy. She just smiled and showed me a large plastic bag of coupons.[:0]
I told her that I would make sure to not get behind her in the check out lane. She said nobody likes to get behind her.

I've never heard the term, "Urban Outdoorsman" before! I'm going to have to try that one out.[:D]

I want to say that "The Regular Guys" on the now defunct 96Rock here in ATL is the first place I heard that term. Those guys were pretty funny. Not as funny as John Boy and Billy, but damn near... Roy D Mercer was on that show all the time...
"How biga boy are ya"

John Boy used to be a disc jockey at WRJZ in Knoxville, TN back in the mid through the late 70s. I met him through some friends of mine that used to hang out with him at happy hour at the Holiday Inn Lounge off Interstate 40/75 at 17th street. He was pretty wild back in those days but was a barrel of laughs. He kept people rolling on the floor laughing all the time. I never knew anyone like him that never ran out of something to say. If he had his mouth wired shut he'd explode. [:D]
He was the #1 disc jockey in Knoxville during those years but he managed to get fired anyway. He just didn't take orders very well in those days and said a few things on the air that management didn't agree with. [:D]
