I realize this has been beaten to death but . . .my son bought an 18" SS brl., Ser#185-087-- that he thinks is a 1985? Correct? I know nothing about this fire arm. Is this considered a "Ranch" model? From previous posts I guess he shouldn't expect much better than a 3" group at 100Yds.? Kinda of a neat little firearm however. I opened the bolt to scope out the barrel. How is the bolt now released?! No comments[:D] Thanks for the replys.

What about trigger pull? Need a small atv and a rope to pull these triggers?
I have owned a 1/2 dozen or so over the years not the best rifle for target practice , but a fun rifle to shoot and does not scare the libs as it looks like a normal rifle if such a thing .
to release the bolt take the magazine out of it and pull back the bolt it will release or there is a small "button " on the left top by the bolt depress it and pull back the bolt let it go while the button is depressed , its a last shot hold open system .
the "ranch rifle" has the receiver made for the factory rings the basic model you need a after market set up to put a scope on it easy to find
the new ones are suppose to be more accurate
go to you tube and type in mini 14 there is countless vids on the rifle
They use to be called the poor mans AR due to the cost but that has changed greatly with AR cost way down
load up and have fun
