$25 entrance fee... yikes. And why no cameras? That seems like a pretty * rule.

Why can't you take pictures? And it only goes out to 100yards and they charge that much. The one I go to is $12 a day and out to 400m, plus being in SoCal, it's open year round. But the range masters make you remove your ear pieces when you set up targets so you can hear the little rattlesnakes!!!!

its all to keep the riff raff out nothing more, one of my ranges has had to resort to similar tactics, a bunch of newbs join and start shooting everything up, toilets, club house you name, no cameras are so they cannot view them later looking for club cameras, dont blame the club blame the idiots

Used to live close to this range. Plinking pit had refridgerator, stoves, televisons, all sorts of things to shoot at. Don't know if they have cleaned them out or not. Have had people walking on paths close to the range hit by stray rounds. I heard it wasn't going to open this summer but looks like it did. I use to use the range when I was in the National Guard and we needed a place to qualify. Was owned by someone else then. He would let the grass get real long so we couldn't pick up the brass when done. He died in an accident at the range when the building he and some others were reloading in caught fire. Bshooter

man i'm glade i live up here. In both north and south dakota most ranges are public and free of charge. Here in North Dakota i became a member of a local gun club with range that is run my the county sheriff office. 20.00 per year is all they charge. It use to be free to all but there insurence company was gripping to much.

Great range! The guys over on AR15.com go there all the time. I went twice last summer and shot 600rds through my AK's on each visit.

Only range around, I know of, that allows rapid fire at the pit. It's not a place to go to very often as it's a good hike from where I live but it's a blast.

Rapid fire is only allowed in the pit area. It's slow fire on the longer distance ranges.

The no camera rule is to protect the other shooters on the range. Not everyone want their picture with their guns all over the internet.

Price is high for the day and I would never buy a membership but once in awhile it's nice to burn off a couple 10 mags as fast as you can pull the trigger.

Another range I'm a member of is the Wisconsin Sportsman's Range up off Hghway 11 just 5 miles west of 94 in Wisco. Initiation is $75, yearly fees are $25 there after. Range fee for the day is $3 members, $5 for non members. Slow fire only but shooting from a magazine is allowed. They have 25yds, 50yds, and 100yds.

Only open Saturdays and Sundays. The range has 2 tripod mounted spotting scopes for anyone to use. They also have all the trap and skeet fields.

That's where I do the majority of my rifle shooting.

All this formality is really foreign to me.

I just step out onto the deck and start blasting away - or drive a half hour into the woods and do a formal target setup.

Would have a very tough time complying with all the rules, but I can certainly see the need.

I think they recently put in a longer 200yd+ range. They also have a dirt bike / atv park down the road.

The reason the range closed in the winter is because there is a narrow gravel road that goes over a small swamp / pond. They don't want to be liable for someone sliding their car into the pond in the winter.

To the people who have wrote any negetive remarks about this range, know nothing about that scarecity of open air shooting ranges in this state.

While the entrance fee may seem high to some people, other ranges, indoor ranges, charge by the hour, and you can't shoot centerfire rifles, shotguns or black powder weapons. That and the fact that your limited up to 75 feet as opposed to 100 yards of distance to shoot. The range has been cleaned up. Years ago, people used to take all sorts of junk to use for target practice and leave it there. Now you can only shoot at paper targets at the handgun and rifle range. Clay targets at the shotgun range where they provide the throwers. And at the Plinking Pit, you can't take any steel or glass targets.

If you get there early, say at 9:00AM and stay till closing at 5:00PM, it runs you about $3.13 an hour for one or all ranges. I think thats a bargin. There have been many times I spent 5, 6 or 7 hours at this range.

I have had a very good and long discussion with one of the operators of the range regarding several subjects. As for the photography issue, different law enforcement agencies, DEA, FBI, Illinois State Police are among some that use this range for training. They, the operators of the range, wish to protect the identity of the officers should someone take there picture and post it on a website. Another reason, and one that I can relate to, is to protect my identity and what I own and shoot. As well as the identities of all the people that use this facility.

As for the rules, really people, come on. It's all common sense. I and the people I have gone there with to enjoy a day there, plus the other people that are there to have a day of fun, have not found the "Rules" to be out of line. Remember, we are there with firearms, don't you think we should make it as safe as possible for ourselves and our fellow gun owners?

I live in Illinois and about 40 miles from this range. I have traveled to use this range with friends and family members and have always had an enjoyable day of shooting at the various ranges they have. I also plan to continue to use their facility and hope they stay in business for a long, long time.
