Right now my best friend has my Lincoln Mig welder and Lincoln arc welder along with a Ruger 22/45 with a pac lite flutted barrel and a Sprinfield Armory custom 45 with night sights and crimson trace laser. About 3 or 4 thousand dollars easy.

Now my sister in law just met someone and wants me to lend him a lot of tools. I have met him 3 times and i dont like him for some reason. He wants to borrow air compresers, nailers, pressure washers, table saws, compound miter saws, radial arm saws, skill saws, saw zalls. I have 2 or 3 of everything but how can you ask someone you dont know to borrow all that and more.

He is starting his own business and i told him i would be a partner and furnish tools and work with him. He told me flat out no that i should just give him the tools because he is dating my sister in law. I asked what about if something gets broken and he told me that it should be in better condition before i gave it to him. Somehow i dont think he is getting any tools from here.[:(]

Are you for real? That is a conversation ender. If you loan him any tools you reap what you sow.

I agree with William81, but just before I told him that, I'd make sure I have good locks. Sounds like the kind of guy who might do some "self help".

    Sounds like my late brother-in-law.

Loan him a mop and bucket, rusty hand saw, and foot pump. Tell him that if he returns those items in good condition in 10 years or so you MIGHT lend him the other stuff. (Also a good way to clean the rusty crap out of your work space if he doesn't return it).

No as I said above, I would have told him to drop dead and that would have been the end of the conversation.

Dav get your Ruger and the .45 back. Yesterday

And everytime I EVER lent out a tool it was not returned or broken.

You must come on like a sucker for people to think they can approach you like that.
There's a German proverb; If you make yourself look like a pancake, you'll be eaten like a pancake.
Anything I ever loaned out came back the worse for wear if it ever came back at all.

Someone who thinks that 'dating' a man's sister-in-law and only laying eyes on him a few times automatically qualifies them to use an S-load of the guy's equipment could very well have other 'entitlement' issues. [;)]

I'd take down the serial number on all your gear and get a length of chains. So they don't go missing. Let us know what happens when you shoot that dumb * for "borrowing" your stuff at midnight.

Also give your wife an ear full for having a dumb * sister. Unless he comes up with a nice chunk of deposite. Say about twice the worth of the borrowed. If he asks why tell him it's since you don't like him clause.

I think there is maybe two guys on the planet I'd lend my tools to without a second thought and one died awhile back.

Most every time I've lent anything out it has come back broken, the worse for wear, or not come back at all.

I still occasionally step on my crank and lend something out, invariably I relearn a lesson I should have learned long ago.

I had a wall paper steamer (twenty years old), worked great, took wallpaper off quick and easy. Lent it to the sister in law. I walk up behind her while she is working and watch her come to the end of the hose and yank. The steamer was sitting on a kitchen counter, it hits the floor and explodes into a dozen pieces.

If you feel you have to lend him your tools, check the catalogs, make a list of replacement costs and make him post a deposit. Don't forget to figure in your time and gas to replace the tool.

Lock your garage and forbid him to go rummaging through your junk. Sounds like the type who will help himself. I'd run this guy off, in no uncertain terms and stay as far away from him as humanly possible.

I loaned my brother-in-law my favorite mattock and he sold it at his yard sale. He forgot it wasn't his. He never mentioned sharing the money he got for it.

    I haven't loaned any tools lately. [;)] [:D]

Give him my standard answer when someone wants to borrow some of my tools which is. I don't loan my tools because when I do I have to go find them whenever I need to use one.
