His bow would have been lower to a Muslim robot.

As for the President of our country doing that, it makes my skin crawl
but on a personal level, obama should show respect because the robot is clearly superior in every way and has greater respect world wide than our "Doofus President" has ever had.

I guess I don't get the big deal.

He returned a bow in a culture that bows as a form of greeting.

Why pass up an opportunity to make fun of our "Pretender and Chief" whenever possible.

A moment of levity, and the protocol police go nuts.

    There is nothing to get.

I think the man is disgusting, but to jump on this as something more than a bit of fun is just silly.

I am going to go with DM on this.
It was just a fun thing playing with a robot and I doubt any other politician would have done different.

I guess that makes 2 of you that does not the proper etiquette of bowing, and from the president of the united states to bow to anyone he has bowed to is unacceptable even in their culture

and as my comment goes towards royalty, only their subjects are to bow to them

Oh, my mistake. I thought you were commenting on his bowing to a robot.

Our President bowing to another head of state is wrong, IMO, and is a totally different subject. That said, a mutual bow between heads of state or anyone for that manner, as is often done as a greeting in Japan, is fine.

    Again, much ado about nothing.

    Carry on.

He bows to everyone....including Putin! Complete pansy IMO. Sad that everyone in the world sees it. Evidently his lack of backbone, college adjunct professor knack of talking everything to death, not making a decision or making one and then changing course abruptly (his "red line" in Syria the best example) is talked about behind his back in the WH. Sadly, everyone outside the Beltway sees the same thing. I just wish he would stay in DC and quit going overseas and being a walking American sadsack. He got real testy in his Japanese press conference when he got asked about his Syria aboutface and when he says the US stands behind Japan how much can that promise be believed. He actually got mad at the question.....but it certainly rang true....who can believe a man who said "You can keep your doctor...", well, you know[:(]

I agree with these legitimate points but complaining about him playing around with a robot toy dilutes such real concerns

Exactly. To equate bowing to a robot to bowing to a sheik makes the criticism of either less impactful. It looks like bitching for the sake of bitching.

The US President should bow to no one. Same as American Ships don't lower their flag for any other country's ships. The only time an American ship will lower it's flag is going into or leaving Pearl Harbor as they pass the sunken Arizona memorial.

This president has made a mockery out of everything this country stands for. Somebody needs to slap the SOB in the face the next time he throws those feet of his up on the desk in the Oval Office.

Having lived and traveled to several Asian countries to include Japan, bowing is in fact a method of greeting.

Victoria would not be amused at the treatment of her gift by this P.O.S. In Chief. All should be embarrassed.

I agree with the gist of your post, but just for clarification, a United States Man of War does dip the Ensign to return the salute of a ship of a country recognized by the U. S. and not at war with us.

The Resolute Desk was a gift from Queen Victoria to President Rutherford B. Hayes in 1880 and was built from the timbers of the British Arctic Exploration ship Resolute.

Historical items like this being abused by this POS is beyond belief! He has no respect for the American People or the Country it's self.

I suspect that's the reason he displays maximum contempt and disrespect for that desk, the oval office and the United States flag every chance he gets. Believe it or not he hates Great Briton more than the United States. Something to do with colonization of Kenya.

Wasn't the base of the desk cut off at some time, and than added back on?

Not sure about anything being cut off but FDR had a front put on the desk so people wouldn't see his wheel chair.
