40 vs. 44 mm scope inputs...

I've posted asking about scopes and rings a couple times on here and really appreciate all the input I've received from you folks in helping me make my decision[8D] I've finally decided on the Burris Signature Select, but really need some objective info on the 3-10x40 vs the 3-12x44... It's for a Tikka T3 lite 270 win., and I'd like to know if the larger 44mm is really necessary?
My max shot range where I primarily hunt will probably be around 200 yds., (I'm sure the 40mm would do fine there) but would like to have the ability to expand that by maybe another 100-200 yds given time and practice. My main concern is low light situations 'cause that's when the deer like to travel around here... will the 40mm get me all the way through legal hunting time, or is the 44mm the obvious choice for this situation? (Incase you're wondering... I'm 40 and the ol' eyes are still good ta' go.)
I'm trying to get one or the other on order this weekend, so thanks in advance for your input.

The extra power would be nice with the 3-12-44, but it's not a problem shooting
distance with a 10 power either........
