I mean, come on.

If global warming's a well-studied phenomenon, you'd think they'd have a good idea of when Svalbard would get too warm.

If it's the "Doomsday Vault," you'd think it would be protected against flooding even if they don't think it's going to happen for another few decades.

Why did they put the vault where it's already too warm?

Maybe because of calculating how to grab some sweet headlines?

You didn't read the story. Did you? What? The whole thing didn't flood, just the entrance, because of bad weather not sea level rise?

It's still being hyped as global warming. It should have been snow instead of rain, they're saying.

much to do about nothing, bunch of idiots built a vault believing in global warming and impending doom , but 7c/44f rise in temp can ruin the whole project at -11c/12f

wonder how much our government chipped in on this project

The idea of storing and preserving seeds from stuff that's growing now is a really good one, even if they call it a Doomsday Vault.
Some plants have medicinal properties, or taste especially good, or grow where nothin' else will.
Sticking it in a hole overseas is idiotic.

We are supposed to trust these clowns and they can't foresee a need for better vault space than this?

You have science to support that?

Of course Man can impact the atmosphere just like he can impact the ocean. Sure it is vast but it isn't impossible for man to create smog. Smog isn't good and it does impact temperature and air quality doesn't it?

I see no reason to think mans contribution to the atmospheric changes isn't at least quantifiable.

All the doomsday hype about global warming is strictly hype to make someone money.

This earth has had periods of warming and cooling since forever.

The impact of man on warming/cooling is so minimal, it's near impossible to calculate.

Man has never had nor ever will have any real control over the natural events of Mother Nature.[^]
Why don't we go to school and work on the weekends and take the week off!

My point exactly. It almost looks like they calculated the design and the location to flood and generate headlines.

My exact thinking,, maybe just another "libtard" plan gone awry because most of them can't think their way out of a four door closet without getting expert help.

Another BS story. It did not flood the vault.

?A lot of water went into the start of the tunnel and then it froze to ice, so it was like a glacier when you went in,? she told the Guardian. Fortunately, the melt water did not reach the vault itself, the ice has been hacked out, and the precious seeds remain safe for now at the required storage temperature of -18?C.
