Concealed/open Carry Equipment

Discounting all the BS and hype, I've been looking at belts and holsters to carry open and concealed. A belt that will support the weight without pulling my pants off is probably no problem, but the holster is. Every holster maker claims theirs is the "Best there is". I need some real advice, not advertising.

For leather Milt Sparks, El Paso Saddlery and Simply Rugged all come to mind right away.

For Kydex there are plenty to choose from, I have a JM custom kydex for my Glock OWB carry. It is very good quality.

I have an S4 Tactical nylon web belt, it has the "G hook" buckle so it is very adjustable. Great quality and Made in USA.

My new belt is one made from a conveyor belt. It is super stiff up and down and the holster will not make it sag.

    I like it so far.

Before that I got mine from the beltman.

    Holsters are really personal.

I like the crossbreed, alien gear, Milt Sparks, Greg Kramer and Galco holsters.

A lot depends on what, where and how you carry: IWB, OWB, 4 oclock, 3 o'clock or appendix carry??????

I carry a Glock 19 or 32 at the 3:30 position and I like a cant to the holster.

IWB: Crossbreed Super tuck, Milt Sparks Summer special or an Andrews Mc Daniel II. I find myself wearing the McDaniel II most of the time.

OWB: I really like Simply Rugged Pancake holster.

holsters are like underwear except more choices, what i like may not be for you, and just as uncomfortable

i have seen many holsters promoted here over the years, some are not safe, and some i couldn't wear during an apocalypse

Were I you, I would look hard at Alien Gear. They sell bigfoot gun belts too.
Some will die in hot pursuit
    And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
    Coming down the mountain

I've got a trunk full of those "Best there is" holsters that I've purchased over the years and after many years of carrying a gun in just about every way known to man it gets old. These days if I can't carry it in a pocket it don't get carried.

Yeah, I almost pulled the trigger on Alien Gear for IWB carry. May give them a try, since they offer a money back guarantee.

This is just me and I'm probably the only one on the forum that does this, but I carry my weapon in a flap holster where the pistol cannot be seen.

A '34 Beretta in an Italian police rig. No cross strap, just a belt. It's almost invisible against dark pants. I wear it everywhere, even to the police station. It's unobtrusive and I have not had one single person even remark about it anywhere.

Look at 1934 Beretta Police Holster photos and you see why it only takes two seconds to get the pistol out by feel only.

The O.S.S. string holster works for me. It is free and fits anything you want to put in it.

I love Don Hume JIT holsters, I have four of them for various guns. I also use a Blackhawk leather concealed carry belt. It has a plastic core that keeps it rigid, not sagging under the weight of a gun.

For CCW I like a leather index holster....old faithful and alien gear come to mine and I often forget I'm carrying. Check out Duluth for a good belt.

For Open Carry I can give you a solid reccomendation as I rarely open carry.

    I carry a Khar cm9 for reference.

I've used a FOBUS Kydex OWB holster for about 12 years. It works for me. Belts are a big ?? I get along fine with a couple of leather strap belts with some good body to them(one black & one brown). My jeans fit well and I don't have body parts hanging over the belt so it's only job is holding my pistol in place.

JimmyJack got me thinking: Is a Sneaky Pete holster considered open carry?

Leather or Kydex? If Kydex, I like Cook's Holsters and Gearcraft. For leather it is hard to be Purdygear. Karla's work is second to none and her selection is outstanding, from plain Jane to fully tooled. I favor her version of the Askins.

I'd be happy to help and provide a clear and compelling recommendation. But we need a few questions answered first please:

    What is the weapon?
Do you intend to carry additional magazines/speed loaders?
    Right or Left handed?
What size waist pants do you wear? Inseam as well.
Are you willing to purchase an entirely new wardrobe?
    Are you tubby or slim?
    Tall or short?
    Flexible or stiff?
How far around your body can you reach? How far are you comfortable reaching? (this is a clock question with 12 at your belly button and 6 o'clock is your butt crack)
what type of shirt do you usually wear?
how do you wear it? tucked? untucked? unbuttoned?
do you wear long pants or shorts?
do you usually wear a suit or sports jacket?
what is your favorite color of the following? brown, black, tan, olive drab?
do you travel by car, plane, bus or other public transportation?
if by car, do you drive or passenger as a general rule?
are you right or left handed?
do you drive a car with right or left hand drive?
    do you motorcycle?
    do you bicycle?
do you want to be safe if you do either of the above?
how likely are you to use a public restroom to poop?
why do you feel you need to carry in public?
would you also carry at home if no one else were around?

If you take the time to answer all those questions, we'll have you significantly closer to a decision than you are right now. And might actually find a friend or two who have a holster they hate, but fits your needs exactly.

Oh... and you don't have the correct belt. If you didn't buy it specifically to support a holster, it is the wrong belt.
    Sorry. [;)]
