Anybody know a good one? Gonna be there 4/12 - 4/18. Needs me some fishin' in the Gulf.

Also, I want to take my freshwater tackel and fish the surf a little - tips?

    I don't know of a boat.

What kind of freshwater tackle were you planning on taking?

    It can be done. Depending.

Well, nothing fancy. Some spinning or bait casting stuff with 12 lb. line.

Just looking to catch some small edible fish.

Me, I'd stick with the spinning gear since I find it easier to clean afterwards.

Get a pompano rig. It's a two hook rig if you're not familiar.
Make sure your rod will fling a 1 oz sinker (one of those pyramids snap onto the bottom of your rig.)

I used yum and gulp shrimp strips all last week. Had a blast and fed the family a couple of nights.

You'll probably only cast far enough to catch whiting. But they are mild, have no limit (as long as you don't take more than 100 lbs in a day). A little bony.

Me, I'd carry some pliers for the occasional shark or catfish.

But you can have a blast with a bucket and stuff you can carry in your pockets.

Or. And I'm being serious. Go to walmart when you get there and buy the $30 Shakespeare surf casting rod combo. Clean it or don't. Bring it back home or give it away. It will let you get a little bit further out and deeper off the beach.

You should be able to get it all at Wally World.

If not... The grocery stores close to the beach. [;)]
