Hi all! I'm new to this site. I always looked at guns on it but have never sold or purchased from it. I am thinking about selling a custom made Mauser 98 that I use as my primary hunting weapon.

All I know is that it is a custom Mauser 98 with a beautiful stock and is extremely accurate. I have it zeroed at 200M. I purchased this from my gunsmiths shop as a consignment piece. I paid 700 for it and then dumped a lot more into it. Pete Forthover, a well known custom knife maker and gunsmith re-blued this rifle for me, crowned the tip of the barrel and also floated it. I also had him install a huber stainless steel ultra light trigger on it and make it so you dont have to press the plate down to move the bolt when no ammo is in it. She is a real pleasure to look at and shoot.

I need a NATO caliber rifle for hunting and survival. If things got bad I would be SOL trying to find 300 HH ammo. I love this rifle and may keep it but think it is time to trade it for something more practical for my lifestyle. I can't afford a bunch of different rifles so it is probably in my best interest to get one that has available ammo. I don't know how to reload.

Please go easy on me as I am not an expert of weapons. I just enjoy them and hope to learn more.

What should I do to find out what this would be worth and how to sell it. I appreciate your help.

Sincerely,

Nickkk

DUDE ... Welcome to GB Forum!! Find your thick skin, get out the daggers and get ready to do some slashing!!
Seriously, we're all a good bunch of people hear, except for about 90% of them![;)][;)]
    Now to your question:
Why sell it?? Since you love it and have more $$ in it than you'll probably get from selling, just keep it and just get yourself something different.
I'm a real fan of AR15s and there are so many different uppers you could get in different calibers, while keeping a single lower. In most cases, just change out the uppers and magazines and shoot.

    Dude ??

    Welcome to GunBroker.

I don't think it makes sense for you to sell that sweet, honest-to-God, man's rifle.

Take a looke at the Saages and some of the rifles listed on the auction side.

I think you'll find that you will really take a beating on your rifle.

Also - forget the AR platform.

    Blue steel and walnut.

Yeah, get something pretty and sweet. Get something romantic and sensual. Get something politically correct!
And what is a "Saages" anyway??[;)]

Welcome to the forum fellow Montanan. Keep the H&H and get .308,30-.06, or .300WM (all the same bullet), esp. if you end up reloading. Good luck and happy hunting.

You may as others have suggeted want to keep your current rifle. For an inexpensive hunting, defense, & plinking rifle I would think you may want to look at an SKS. Norincos are very reliable, reasonably accurate, inexpensive, & 7.62x39 ammo is still cheap.
    Welcome to the Forums.

If you like the ballistics of the 7.62X39, a nice alternative would be the tried and trusted .30-30. Ballistics a smidge better than the Kalshnikov round, and you can get it in the Classic American lever rifles: the Winchester Model 94 or the Marlin 336, for under $300, used. If you want to invest a little more, the Savage 99 lever rifle is available in .308, for just about whatever you want to spend.

By the way, the American lever rifles are unlikely to be banned.

Please let us know upon which one you decide.

welcome to the forum.. try this, keep your 98, and start saving your (coin) change. my friends nephew did that to save for a yote gun and between him and his wife, they had saved $700.00 in 6 months. that sounds like a lot of change to save, but it figures out to an average of only $3.85 a day

Thanks for all your help! I'm glad you guys talked me into keeping my rifle. I would have been stupid to sell it for less than I have into it and it will be a nice generational rifle.

I decided to get a 1914 30-06 and put a lymann front sight and redfield rear peep sight with windage and elevation. I found a guy here in MOntana that has boxes of all the old cool sight posts and peep sights. All together I put 125 bucks into it and have a really nice looking and shooting deer rifle.

since then I have also picked up a gp-1975 ak. my first 7.62x39 boy have i been missing out. picked her up for 400. now that the foreigner was illegally elected I have probably doubled my money on that one. I love shooting that thing and found a few thousand rounds cheap in a pawn shop before the obama scam.... man i'm pissed at the stupid lazy hand me out americans who voted for that f###ing half *.

just last week i picked up a nice cammo mossberg 12 ga for a hundred bucks in really good condition. God must be happy with me and is giving me things I need!

Again, thanks for all your help and KEEP SHOOTING!

Storm-Mt hero Jeff Cooper said the best survival was a 22rf rifle. Then a 30-30.
If you dont have one each I think thats what I'd be looking for next[;)]
