Compared to the original GT-40 and the 2005-06 GT that thing, IMHO, is ugly. What's with the flying buttresses, it's a supercar not a cathedral from the middle ages. A V-6? Really? A Ecoboost V-6? Here is a sales line for Ford, "buy the new GT, it has the same engine as a Fiesta".

The 2005-06 GT was a truly amazing car and one of the best investments that could have been made in the past 10 years. The cars bought new for $150,000 are now being sold in excess of $300,000. I can think of no other investment over the past 10 years that would guarantee a 100% profit.

Look up cars that will top 200 mph and you find a lot of them have 6 cylinder engines.

Hard to top the looks of the '66 Ford GT-40.

Do not sneeze at the modern 6 cylinders.

With today's technology; improved metallurgy, variable valve timing, direct injection, advancements in airflow design, and force feeding massive volumes of air, you can put out huge power figures all while saving fuel and weight.

The latter may be the best segment, as weight savings make for huge gains in lateral grip, handling, and acceleration.

Some notable Super Cars with 6 Cylinder powerplants:

Nissan GTR - set some of the fastest lap times around the Nurburgring by a production car. 3.8L V6, 600Hp, 0-60 in 2.7Sec

Porsche: 911 GT2RS, 911 GT3RS, 911 Turbo, the GT2RS holds the 8th fastest lap time around the Nurburgring.

BMW M3, they recently moved to a small V8, but the V6 was regarded as one of the best driver's cars.
Half of the lives they tell about me aren't true.

I will always have a place in my heart for a Ford Flat Head V8....nothing has a sound like a "flat Head"....My 47 Mercury Coupe was bad ...I still want a '34 Ford coup....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WNoidiltyGU

I understand the performance that can be had with a good modern V-6, my Genesis has a 3.8L that makes 333HP on regular unleaded and still pulls 30MPG on the highway. It is a wonderful engine and when connected to the 8-Speed auto will propel my 4000 pound car to a 14 second 1/4 mile at 100 MPH.

But in saying that, who in their right mind would want to buy a $400,000 Ford GT that has a V-6? Now I understand a car like the Jag XJ220 having a V-6 as Jag spent 50 years before building that car perfecting the 6 cylinder. Ferrari on the other hand spent generations perfecting the V-12 so their halo car must have a V-12. The Same goes for Lamborghini and V-12's and Nissan and their 6's

Ford has been one of the champions of the V-8 from the introduction of the Flathead in 1932, all of the best Fords ever made in that time have all had V-8's. You can drive down to your local Ford dealer and order up a wonderful Mustang GT-500 with a 662HP 5.8L V-8 for only $65,000. But if you want to buy the best car that Ford makes, the most expensive car Ford has every built at a asking price estimated at $400,000, The one Ford that has a incredible international racing history dominating the world, yes, for the GT your stuck with a weak Eco boost V-6 making only 600 HP.

Now what other cars could you buy if you had a extra $400,000 burning a hole in your pocket? How about the 740HP Lamborghini Aventador, or the 740HP Ferrari F12 Berlinetta, maybe even the 650HP Noble M600. Or you could save $150,000 and buy a 650Hp McLaren 650S, 630HP Lamborghini Huracan LP640-4 Superleggera, or the new 660HP Ferrari 488 GTB. With those choices who in there messed up mind is going to pass up any of those cars to buy a V-6 Eco Boost Ford for $400,000?

Performance isn't the reason most folks buy super cars. Price certainly isnt. If performance and price were the reason, you would buy a Superbike.

    $20,000 Ducati vs. $200,000 Lamborghini.
