AR build ideas?

$1000 budget for the main parts. The rail system and optics will come later.

What parts would be good for a 16" that can handle anything?

You going to build from the ground up or go with a rifle kit and stripped lower?

I've got 3 partially complete lowers waiting for projects...thinkin of doing

    1. an 20" A2 upper with CTR Stock in OD Green
    2. 68 spc upper
    3. 300 blk upper, probably a 16"

    not in any particular order

Going to get a stripped lower, complete upper, and going with a flat top and gas block with flip down sight.

Little over budget but I looked at the colt 6920 and found the 6940 with mono upper. It looks like a good setup

Have you checked out the rifle kits available out there?

Del-ton and J&T Distributing make some nicely priced, and optioned rifle kits. You can pretty much order everything you want in one place.

I assembled a rifle kit from Del Ton, and added all sorts of options to trick it out how I wanted it, its a nice set up.

    best barrel on the market

    http://www.jprifles.com/

.223 wylde chamber 1:8 gives you the best of both worlds, .223 accuracy that can handle 5.56 pressure

course longer the better velocity, i would consider 18" or 20" if your gonna make a do all rifle, 2" or even 4" won't kill you on an entry weapon, while maintaining long range accuracy

With $1000 to spend on an AR build you are pretty wide open, especially if sticking to a 16"

+1 on the 223 wylde chamber, great for being able to shoot 5.56 surplus and switch over to 223 match grade while maintaining accuracy.

Suit yourself but your ( homebuilt AR) will be worth half the cost of a Colt - RR or Bushmaster
    if you sell it....

For a $1000.00 budget i would also recomend getting a nice factory built rifle plus mags. stag or rock river are really good, just remember that the current production bushmasters (marked made in new york by remington) are just dpms rifles priced higher. Good luck

Homebuilt is fun and you get what you want. As long as your parts are quality your okay.

With a 16" or 18" barrel I prefer a mid length gas system. The Wylde chamber is the way to go. But not a deal breaker.

A trigger is probably more important, the STD kits have horrible triggers. The RRA lower with match trigger is a good deal, great 2-stage for the $. Otherwise there are some nice drop in triggers.

I also like to upgrade the stock, the Magpul ACS or RRA operator seem right to me for a 16" carbine. If you go 18", I would check out the Magpul UBR. But that's my opinion.

Muzzle device, the STD A2 flash dispenser or the Vortex adds to the look and PWS has a great break with some flash suppression.

Check out Bravo Company as well. Get good parts and you'll be fine. There are always other options, chrome carrier and bolt, heavier full auto carrier(I use those). But have fun, get a decent barrel, stay away from the super light as well. I won't even get into the hand guard options, except a free float.

I really did not need a fourth carbine but I felt this was too cheap to pass up.

    It surpassed my expectations.
500 rounds, two torture tests and it has not missed a step, 100% and is accurate to boot.
Plus that price includes shipping and there is no credit card fee and the Go Bag is IMO, worth in the $75.00 range

I have a 300AAC upper from CMMG. that I am in the final stages of building (Waiting for the Suppressor and NV Scope) and shares the lower with my BFG.

The 300 is a good ctg only a few hundred FPS less than 223 with bullets over double the bullet weight. if you reload you have a MUCH more versatile round than 223.
If you load the 300 supersonic it duplicates a 30-30 that's semi-automatic with a 30rd clip. you can suppress it and have a quiet gun that has the power of a 45ACP but with more range

check out Aero Precision. I have one that I use for my BFG and 300 AAC. So far it has handled ~400rds of 50BMG, several hundred rds of 223, and several hundred rounds of 300AAC with no noticeable wear at all

I was at the Dallas Gun Show today and I didn't see a single 6920 that could be bought that cheap...

I saw 1 SP1 that was well used, labeled as a 1966 (had a bird cage flash hider) obvious it was not a correct gun. He only wanted $2895 for it. He wanted $1895 for a rifle just like I was selling for $1100.

Back to the post: Checkout model1sales.com for your upper. If I were building a rifle, I would hit aimsurplus for some of those spike tactical lowers that are marked down because of scratch and dent.
