KNOXVILLE - A Kodak man has been charged with the theft of two handguns from the Knoxville Gun and Knife show this past weekend. Both guns have been recovered by police.

Danny Eugene Allison, 42, was arrested after he returned to the show in the Jacob Building in Chilhowee Park and tried to sell one of the stolen guns as his personal firearm, according to Knoxville Police Department spokesman Darrell DeBusk.

One of the two exhibitors from whom Allison is alleged to have stolen a handgun is Bill Adams, 44, who in an unrelated incident on Sunday accidentally shot himself in the hand while showing his personal handgun to someone at the show. No charges have been filed, but that shooting remained under investigation today, DeBusk said.

Adams has a handgun carry permit, DeBusk said. Typically, gun shows have a rule against anyone except police officers bringing a loaded firearm into the show.

DeBusk said Allison came to the show on Saturday and stole a .22-caliber revolver from another dealer. Witnesses provided a description of the thief. On Sunday, Allison came to the show, stole a .357 magnum revolver from Adams' table, and tried to sell the stolen .22-caliber revolver to another party, DeBusk said.

"Some of the dealers recognized the guy, alerted officers, and he was taken into custody," DeBusk said.

The .357-caliber revolver stolen earlier from Adams' table was found in Allison's vehicle. The accidental discharge in which Adams was wounded occurred a short time thereafter.

Allison was charged with theft, as well as with unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
