Theoretically speaking

If I used 1000 links, would it be reasonable to expect I would link:

a) 500 Rounds
b) 999 Rounds
c) 454 Rounds
d) 1000 Rounds

    The answer is d.
    W.D.

You could link UP TO 1000 rounds so [D] is the maximum...
But you could link either [A], , [C], or [D].... Theoretically.

    OK.

I bought 1000 links on the auction side and got them today. I just linked 250 rounds 30-06 and there are only 250 links left in the box.

Just wanted to make sure I wasn't nuts before sending this guy an email.

In a single belt, you could place 999 cartridges in a flat configuration, or 1000 cartridges if you use a full loop configuration.

Edit: Better start counting pieces, as you didn't get a full thousand links

1000 links would connect 1001 bullets.

2 links for the first round, +1 after that is 999, you can put a round in the last hole, but it's not likely going to stay unless you use the starter tab.

I am short, no doubt about it.

So how many linked rounds would be so heavy the action could not move the weight of it through without a second man handling the belt?

Or is that why you can only link 1001?

Some guns that have ammo can brackets will empty the entire can. I think 250 rounds is the most in a single belt for 30-06 or 308. m60 battle packs are 100 rounds. Most ww1 and ww2 used ammo cans, few m60 were set up for ammo cans, as they were carry guns.

Now I would assume it's obvious that larger caliber guns may have endless belts. 50 cal wing guns, 8mm wing guns, minigun usually has a 100K round belt (I still need one of these for my collection).

I am actually linking mine into 50 round belts as to help keep the trigger finger from locking up and breaking my *.

My point to ask was I loaded 250 rounds and I used 50% of the links, and I knew there was no way I was going to get 1000 rounds linked last night.

ANM2 is the fastest cycle rate 30-06 in the world at 1150 round a min. (aircraft gun)

The 1917 is water cooled, so the 50 round belts will give time to fill the water tube.

The 1919a4 will eat 250 round belts out of the can like there is no tomorrow.

The Browning BAR will chug along quite nice with 100 rounders.

    Umm negatory red rider.
@ 999, you will have a 1/2 link hanging out on each end (assuming 1K links). To link 1000 rounds w/1000 links, you need to slip #1000 into both of the end 1/2 links forming a endless belt

OK, just did a recount and there is no doubt, I am short. I linked 245 rounds, and I used 249 links to do it. Since I was linking in belts of 50, 4 rounds are left out but the links are still used.

I just recounted the links and bagged them, there are 253 links. So I have no doubt a box of links was 500 not 1000.

The seller has verified I am correct and they are shipping another box asap.

They were very good about it, and a little surprised as the supplier was selling to them as 1K per box and I went back and they had 10 auctions that closed. That's gonna hurt a little. Hope the supplier picks up the slack.

Are they natural or synthetic links?

Hmmm, so I am the dummy?

I assumed you meant the metal links vs the plastic links used by other countries.

    haha at me I suppose...
