How many people still have the rifle they shot their first deer or elk with? I am not lucky enough to own the Winchester model 88 in .243 that I harvested my first deer with but in a stroke of luck my uncle did gift me my first elk rifle, a Remington model 710 in .30-06

A Marlin 336 in .35 rem. I bought new from Edlemans gun shop on Long Island, NY.
I just turned 18 in 1974 and it was a birthday present to myself.

Still have it.
But I just can't bring myself to get rid of it.
Took my first deer and my first elk with it and every one since. All have been one shot stops and the rifle still shoots dime sized 100 yard groups. After 41 years it feels like a part of me.
Next 10-15 deer=Rem 742 in 30/06. Traded it for a 700 in 243. Still have the 243.

First PA deer with a rifle= Marlin 336 30-30 that my wife bough me on our first Christmas together.
I have mine, a Savage 30-30 with a 3 round clip, I know it is a clip it says so on the side. [8D]
I have a 1969 catalog with a add in it for a leather belt holder for
a spare Savage CLIP holder. Only $2.89.
So you are correct.[:D]
First rifle deer was with a marlin 336 30-30 still have it also.
First quail was a savage single shot 410 ga still have it. All were given by my Dad and I'll always have them. I'm positive the savage has had the most care. I used to oil it down every night before bed.
1st Elk - .300 WInchester Mag. Sears Model 1870 (Win. Mod. 70) - Still have it.
1st Pheasant - 12 GA Mossberg 500 - Still have it.
I still own every gun I have ever bought, except for a Marlin 60C that was stolen. I bought an identical one to replace it.
1979 first deer. 8 point buck. One shot.
Still have it.
1948 Winchester Model 70 in 30/06.
Shot my first deer with it back in 1981 in Hondo, Texas.
"Borrowed" it almost every year to hunt with.
Dad never had a problem with me using it because it always came back cleaner than it left.
