As I said in another post I had some great photos I needed to scan.

This one is from San Diego Stadium.

Same Even just a little later in the day.

tractorpull.jpg?t=1298175633

This was at Riverside Drags, it was just on Display.

thumper.jpg?t=1298175705

An Old Favorite on the way to the line at Riverside.

pisano.jpg?t=1298175793

At Carsbad Dragway.

Run what you Brung day. The guy in the closest car was making fools out of the rest of the cars.

oldschool.jpg?t=1298175889

This beast was at Orange County Race way. Takes a bit of HP to pull that front end off the ground and he did it every time he left the line.

oldchev.jpg?t=1298176020

Back to Riverside and everybody has to get a photo of this car.

hawaian.jpg?t=1298176145

Well Last one Riverside again and think this is what you call a Burn Out[:o)]

Yep, used to go to OCIR, Lions, and Irwindale drag strips! I was looking at pictures tonight that I took at the 1972 Winternationals; Sox and Martin, Grumpy's Toy, Melrose Missile, Dyno Don, etc.

Thanks for the pictures, they bring back memories!!!! [:)]

I grew up going to Willow Grove,Atco,Cecil andI think their was one on Reading Pa. that had a few good races.I saw some badass GRumpy Jenkins and The Snake duke it out in De. I saw Garlits run a few times too,Willow Grove and Atco.Nascar used to be cool too.The MONSTER MILE used to be WFO BABY!! U could carry a KEG into the stands,if U had help with it!! A few trips up to the Poconos for road races.Never was to a road race in NY. Who drove the Hawaiin Tropic? Was it Pruhdome?
    Actually,Cali. though,Carlsbad,Bakersfield,Pomona,and a myriad other strips,is where "DRAGRACING" came from..Real nostalgia .
    Great pix!!

    thanks grumpy!
grew up running at maple grove near Reading Pa
wish i could FIND some of the pics i had,
wheelstanders at night throwing up a curtain of sparks
jet cars with the plume of flame and smoke
had a set of 3 showing the body lifting off a funy car half-track, first just as it started to lift, second was body at 90 deg to the chassis (the drag almost threw the car into the wall)
and the third with the body sailing through the air

...The only track near me was US 30 Dragway. I raced a '66 Chevelle there and went as a spectator, but being a kid, never thought to bring a camera. There are some nostalgic web sites devoted to US 30. The asphalt lanes about all that's left...[V]
...Here's a site, or google US 30 Dragstrip.

PS...They still owe me a trophy!

Cool. Not far from me, but closed before I got here.

Been to National Trail Raceway in central Ohio a few years back for NHRA races. Wonder what happened to my pics of that.

...66 is only a few miles away. I'm west of Peotone, east of Manhattan. I can't believe that I've never made it over there. Guess it's my dislike of crowds....[V]

I don't like crowds either, but I put up with them once a year. Try going to a tuesday or wednesday night for test and tune. Thare are no crowds and you still get to see some awesome cars. you never know what is going to show up.
I used to live in Streator so it was only an hour away. Then would go to Turtle's in Dwight for steak night where they have $3.25 pitchers. [:o)]

Speaking of gearheads....Before he became famous, Grumpy used to work his magic at a gas station in Devon, Pa. in the late fifties. I had a '55 Chevy convert at the time, and would take it to him for tune-ups. He sure could make it run! Later, with Lonny Lowrey's '57, and his own '58 fuelie, he would blow the doors off everything he came up against, becoming National Superstock champ. And again, with York, Pa. Ammon R. Smith dealership sponsoring "the Old Reliable", he dusted all comers, and ensured himself a spot in NHRA history. Bill is still at it in his shop in Malvern, Pa. keeping the neighbors awake dynoing motors for the faithful. BT
