In my mind these two statements are mutually exclusive. Are the prices yard sale, meaning cheap, or are the stupid, meaning rediculously high? Please clarify, so we can make fun of your fortune or folly whichever the case.

Yeah I was wondering myself.
He HATES the auction shows; the clowns who now show up to auctions are expecting to find treasures in every one and they berate the employees when their golden goose turns out to be a turkey. These shows salt the storage units to make things seem glamorous and drive ratings...it's all staged.
Think about it, there might be a 1 in 10,000 chance someone put something really valuable in a locker and forgot about it. People who store good stuff either pay their bills or take their valuable stuff out. (Same goes for temp storage where people are moving and need a POD or store room for a few weeks)
99.99% of the stuff that is in storage that goes to auction is absolute junk people are sick of tripping over but didn't have the heart to toss it out.

Most people there buy this stuff to resale at yard sales and flee markets.
If they are paying up front what it goes for at yard sales then its kinda stupid.
An old washer and dryer sold for $210. I can find ten sets in a day for less than that.
Figure in cost of items, flee market fees, gas and labor, and the profit is gone.
Its like they cover cost just to have something to do.
