United Airlines new/old CEO is much better

The LAST United CEO did about everything a "bean counter" could do to destroy the loyalty of United Fliers.

Surprising thing,, I'd flow Continental for 50 years and LOVED the airline. Who would have imagined he would become the NEW CEO of UNITED and would almost RUIN UNITED in a few years when he took over. It soon had become obvious to UNITED their "bean counter" CEO needed to go.

United made this announcement little over a year ago.
United Airlines Announces Return of President and CEO Oscar Munoz

United did their job with no problems for their portion of my flight,, but,, they had to rely on a "affiliated" carrier (LAN / LATAM) whose home is in Chile. Got to the counter and they didn't have my reservation. The fact I had a paper and electronic copy,, well,, that wouldn't get me on ON A LATAM plane [:(] Had to buy a ticket on AVIANCA which is a first class airline.

Upon return to the U.S. sent a report of my problem through UNITED Airlines standard internet site. Received an immediate computer generated reply they would get back with me in 2 weeks. No receipts, which I had, or any backup was sent. Thinking they would ask for what was required, someday.

This is the reply:
CustomerCare Jan. 2016

Dear Mr. Soon to be happy customer:[:D]

I'm so sorry to hear that LAN denied you boarding on their flight. I can only imagine your disappointment. Please accept my apology.

We appreciate your feedback and have shared it with the appropriate
management teams for their information and internal review.

We will be refunding the unflown portion of your United ticket
(CLO-BOG). Please allow 4-6 weeks for processing. A Refunds agent will be in touch with you directly once completed. I will also be issuing you a $150 electronic travel certificate which you'll receive within 2-3 business days.

We appreciate your business and MileagePlus loyalty. We look forward to serving you under more pleasant circumstances.

Regards,

So is that more or less than you had to pay Avianca.

I never fly united since I live in ATL, but got stiffed last spring trying to get home from Montana (The Feds bought my ticket, not my choice). Got up at 4am to catch my flight, got to the airport and got bumped. At least I got a $600 voucher out of it and they put me back in my same hotel. (same room) I just went back to sleep.... Got out on Delta the next day.

Now if I can just find somewhere I want to go on united for $600 ish....

they can send you a electronic credit in 2-3 days but it could take 6 weeks to return your money, that is just plain crazy, should be the other way around.

I'm probably never going to fly again; most seats are too narrow, pitch is too short.

Remember, I did say it was an improvement. [:D] When you've been left to die of thirst and a new guy offers you water, it's similar, or a little better.

The way United was operated a year ago probably put them at the "bottom of the barrell". FRIENDLY SKIES OF UNITED ? A joke.

United refunded or will refund "credits" in every case. I had specifically requested credits. I'll be buying another ticket and also have a United Account for frequent flier miles.

Spent $150 to make my connection using another airline and got back $150. United will also "credit" my account with some amount as reimbursement for the ticket their affiliate had refused to honor,, that amount,, someday will "put me ahead". Probably ahead $75.

Sadly, this is what to expect flying coach and not the good ole days "valued customer" treatment, not even close.

Don't fly much but my limited experience these days says SOUTHWEST is still a good, safe, on time and economical airline. Southwest has new flights down to Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, in addition a new international terminal in Houston. One new SOUTHWEST connection is Cuba,, but NO Colombian flights.[:(]

That is my biggest complaint on a long list of things I don't like about United. Their seating is just too cramped for me. They can change all sorts of things regarding service, freebies, and what not and I still won't fly with them because I don't fit into the seats in their stupid planes. Delta is much, much better in this regard.
