We learned as far back as 1904 when John Browning invented the cartridge which evolved into the M1911 how effective a man stopper his 45 ACP was.

Much as can be said about the 357 Magnum which is now over 80 years old.

I read most. It all comes down to shot placement. You can kill a wild hog with a .22 with a shot behind the ear. If that sucker is charging you well you won't outrun it. Muzzle energy is pretty vital. 22's 100 ft pds. 380's 150-200, 9mm stock..350 +p 400 or so. 40's 450..I have some 588 that are hot. 45's stock 350 +p 565 .. Pick your ammo carefully, make a good shot. But... Get a good shotgun for an intruder.. Nothing..Nothing beats it regardless the load up close and personal.
