Why is '12345678' Number 3 worst, and '1234567' only Number 7?
Freedom and a submissive populace cannot co-exist.

My only guess is due to occurrence.
Some will die in hot pursuit
    And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
    Coming down the mountain

If there are 25 common passwords how is a bad guy supposed to know what one to try? Most sites lock you out after a few failed attempts.

My local small town bank now makes you use a password at least 7 characters
long, one must be a number, one must be a CAPITAL letter, and one must be a Special sign such as "?" , "<", "=". Told it was amongst the hardest set for a password Bot to get into.[B)]

My e-mail server requires users to change passwords made according to this formula at least once a year, and sometimes sooner if the IT gang detects a breach. A truly random sequence is too hard to think of and then remember, so I have taken to typing in familiar data for some cartridge I reload regularly--bullet design, caliber, and weight; powder charge; wad/shot combination; or any similar data giving a suitable sequence of numbers, letters, and symbols.

For example, here's an old one I can never use again: 38grH335. Till I had used it enough for it to come automatically, I stuck a Post-It on my computer that read ".35 Remington."

It's a cast bullet load for the .45/70, but I don't use any text from it in my current password. Sorry.[^]
