I checked into it a year ago. In short you are buying the computer software and the controller. You supply the plasma cutter and table. I have something similar at work but, I can use Oxy/propylene torch or plasma I can also use both at the same time for different material thicknesses.

For the price, It would be good for making gun car parts.

I think it was in the ball park of $800-$1200. The CAD/CAM software looked pretty clean from the demo I got.

Even if you paid 2500 for it you could make that up in no time selling parts /art etc. Getting a good hi cap plasma cutter and the air compressor to run it are going to be the major cost.

yeah, i was thinking, besides the decorative stuff, some side panels for a 1918 MG would be nice!
I wonder how hard it is to program in a pattern?

Basically with CAD/CAM software what you do is draw out your part with the required dimensions. Then you will have to program in cuts notches
    holes etc within the part.

For example Say you wish to cut a 4"X4" square and want a 1/4" hole in the center

You draw your 4x4, square then the software will show you the X axis and Y axis of your part xy_axis.gif

Then you draw your 1/4 Circle in the center of your part. The dimension might look like -y=.125 +y=.125 -x=125 +x=.125 Highlight it as a cutout. That's the basics of how it works. I have not used their software but it will figure things out for you. Then you do a sample part and edit from there. dheffley is a great CNC Guru and can help/explain to you better in depth than I, with Drawing in X Y.

I just have a hard time explaining it in detail[:I]

Its things like this that I can't do in a paragraph.[:D] I know you have been around the block way more than I with CNC.

The guy renting my commercial building has one. He uses it it rough out 3/4" steel plate parts before CNC milling. The input to the table is just like a printer. the software is a really crude CAD. He has tried to give it to me a couple of times. So far I have said no. I don't have room for it.

    hey alpine,
he can give it to me![:p]

    frank and dan,
what do you think about the powermax 600. it looks like the company replaced that model with a new one, but there's still some out there for sale.
it has enough cutting capacity for what I need and the prices are right. (around $1200-1500)
    thanks
