And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
I give up!!!

CURTA CALCULATOR
Kasey, you had it! and then you went and guessed "coffee grinder"[B)]
bravo CAPPA! not too many folks actually know the name.
the link you posted is the bible, and one of the few guys that actually works on these little buggers.
the part in question is metal. The estimate is about 20 original replacements still exist! the guy on that site has 5 of the original parts and will install one for about $1000, but only if you have a very early manufacture museum grade Curta!!
he does have some custom made plastic replacements that he will install for considerably less, but only as part of a complete overhaul.
there is a type one, like mine, (w/o the broken part) on Ebay now for $2400. he wont get that, but $2000 is very possible.
they come in a 2 pc metal cylinder with a white O ring that makes the container watertight.
even the O ring for the type one is worth $$$!!!
I bought mine cheap. had never seen one and was fascinated by it. I didn't even know the part was broken. It functions fine.
