another mans new gun case?
needed something better than 4,5,6 different factory boxes when i go to the range
then someone threw out a carry case for a laptop...
case%20004.jpg

a few layers of foam and some outline cutting later...
case%20001.jpg
stack the two levels...
case%20002.jpg

another layer of egg crate, and use the strap to keep everyone protected...
case%20003.jpg

even nicely provided pockets for ear plugs, pen for scoring, screwdriver oil etc
and on either side on the outside, pockets for targets, stapler, small tool wrap if im gonna be doing sighting in etc...
case%20005.jpg

add another bag for ammo carry and im set to go!
and it only cost about 2-3 hrs time to cut some old foam i had hoarded... [^]
and the wife wonders why i dont throw anything away? [;)]

I never cut my foam. I just used to sammich the guns in between two pieces and they stayed. After a while there was an indentation showing exactly where they go.

got a friend in the hospital? they often give the egg crate foam for on the bed... and you can take it with you when you leave

packaging for large items with delicate parts often have large sheets of foam

if yo REALLY cant scrounge some, most fabric stores will have sheets of foam in different thicknesses, sheet sizes and density for reasonable prices.
for cutting, any good sharp blade will work, but a dull one will pull the foam and give rough edges
spray adhesive works to bond two layers like i did on this one, so you can cut completely through one layer and still have protective backing

i cut outlines for several reasons,

1- the finished case is slimmer than just sandwiching

2- guns and mags will stay in "their" respective spot even if the layer is removed and gets tilted

3- no waiting for months for the impression to stay when gun is removed, or larger than pistol imprint from not placeing it at the exact spot each time

    Awesome!

Do you go to a private range? All the ranges near me charge per gun so bringing 4-6 guns would be expensive. although with price of ammo the 8-16 dollars per gun doesn't seem so high. hmmmmmm

man i glade you posted that. I have six laptop bags laying around here and only two laptops and one is older and never goes anywere. I bought them in bulk because i was looking for one for the new laptop. I found six for sale online cheaper then i could buy one in the store. I was wondering what i would use the others for. Now i just have to find some hardened foam to cut out. were in the hell would a guy find something like that.

Careful with the foam!!! My Father Uglied up a nice Browning by using some ??? foam - it rusted the gun in ugly spots all over as it was disintegrating, leaving patches of foam stuck to the gun and stock. Might have been the result of Silicone anti-corrosion film?

I can't believe that they charge you to bring guns to a gun range. I do understand a range useage fee but to charge for each gun is crazy. That is like charging a golfer a dollar for each ball in his bag along with the green fee to play a round.

The workmanship on the computer case "transformation" is outstanding!!

Now, the grips..they suck! Put some of your work on those pistols' handles!! That's an order!!!

I'm going to get some foam and make one.
