Check out this auction. Seller claims pistol condition is 99%. Really??? On what planet?

The link below is to a 1903 I picked up a few months back...in the box. I would have trouble calling mine 99%.....

The guy has a pair, that is for sure calling that pistol 99%! I wish he was around to grade these two old M1s; I could have made a bundle selling them as unissued!

99% condition and 99% blue are two entirely different things when it come to value . I a have a civilian early 4 digit model 1911 serial C130X it is 95% blue however the other 5% is deep pits where it was stored in a holster . The front sight is almost completely eaten off[:(!]95 % BLUE means 20 times more surface area is bright original blue then that that has no blue. Mine fits this description but because of deep pitting on other 5% Condition as to value is at best 20% of value of a 95% "condition" pistol. I agree the pictures of this pistol is worth at best 40% of a 95 % CONDITION pistol.

I dont know about you guys but Id call 99% pretty much mint condition with only a few fingerprints and perhaps one microscopic scratch in the grips that is more like 55% Oh and Mark Christian Id love to restore those M1 Garand barrelled recievers for you.

And this is about half way through his description, "There is no clip. I cannot find it!"

So, you are bidding on a pitted, rusted, worn, firearm that has no clip and a box that looks as if you touch it, it will dissolve into dust?

What amazes me is he HAS bids!!

Wow...I have no knowledge compared to those on these fora, however even I know that this is NOT 99%! And even the wood grips, which ARE in good shape, are NOT 100%!

Well, if he has bids, buyer beware...but I thought "truth in advertising" was required here on GB?

This is a good test for the BBGV. The latest edition notes a $1250.00 price at 100% condition, plus a 30% premium for the box (picture 100% condition), and we have an estimated value of $1625.00. Now let's take a 50% deduction due in large part to the degree of pitting (including the freckling), and we are now down to a "ballpark" figure of $812.50, without considering the cost of a magazine. This, before transfer costs are figured in.

Looks as if the BBGV and the bidders were pretty much in line where market value is concerned, once cost of magazine, tranfer and shipping fees including insurance:

It must be the finger prints and dust on the camera lens that have made those pesky distortions of his 99% pistol.

I appears to me that 99% of the parts are on that pistol.

I really don't know what you guys are bitching about.

Agreed. And although we hear that a simple statement from the seller noting that the pictures show the condition might not sit well with some people, this is a prime case where they did just that and very, very well.
