I just bought a '97 GMC pick up with power everything, 350 engine.
the power steering takes almost no effort, total lack of road feel.
you can make a u turn using your pinky finger!
Is this normal?
can the steering box be adjusted to provide less assist?
thanks
tom

I would google it. Some power steering units have a power progression system that is supposed to lower the assist at higher speeds. I am not sure if gm incorporates this. If the vehicle has this feature it is usually a vsv located somewhere on the power steering pump itself. The worse part about this system is a lot of times they will fail and put power stering fluid right into your intake manifold [:0]

You can drain the fluid from the pump. Don

Seriously, I have had several GMC's that had super sensitive power steering. You could spin the steering wheel. I always liked it. Don

that's a good way to describe it!
It wouldn't bother me so much except that I'm planning to "build" the engine and need a little more road feel for the additional speed.[:p]

    hey LOKO, you reading this?[:D]
