Basspro

Emailed the store manager earlier. Got a quick response. I asked about a firearm not listed on their website, but they had ones from the same brand. They said it wasn't in stock, but if I come in and pay and fill out the paperwork, they'll give me a receipt and slip to pick up the rifle and cover overnight shipping from the manufacturer warehouse. All this at $30 below MSRP. Basspro has redeemed themselves in my eyes. All the local shops wanted me to cover shipping and still pay a higher price. I guess since nobody has them in stock, this must be a rifle to fill a small niche or something?

ALWAYS make certain someone has YOUR rifle that you are PAYING for in hand before you agree to part with money. If nobody has it in stock...I'm betting it won't be coming from anywhere quickly.

I have heard MANY people complain about pre paying for things and it taking FOREVER to get to them.

LF, I was thinking about that. I don't want to hand the man my cash then wait a month. I'm gonna email again and see if they can't go ahead and order one and I'll come buy it when it comes in.

After ffl fee and shipping, the basspro one plus tax is still $20 cheaper. Now you may say $20 ain't alot, but for the guy turning wrenches for $7 cash an hour, well that's 3 hours of work! Also, the drive to Raleigh would mean I'd have to find one for $250. Also, I'll have a ride to basspro the first time since dad is gonna get a pistol. I emailed the guy over the firearms to see if he can tell me how long I'd have to wait. I figure if I get it in writing, and they completely fail on their part (states one week and it takes 3 months) I could raise a big stink about it. It also helps that I love walking around basspro and seeing the huge aquarium and I like that they provide a place for free hunter's safety classes. I think I'm gonna sleep on the decision.

Savage, I would think basspro would be willing to please their customers and be trouble free. About how long is the average delivery time? The guy said overnight, but I doubt it.

Sounds good. And with it being basspro, if something does go wrong raising a big stink about it can usually set things straight. [:D]

The Cost of Doing Buisness with local shops once will go a long ways for your next purchase. At a dept. store you are just another face.

Their corporate headquaters are in Springfield MO.
Keeping my eye out maybe something will pop up there.

    +1

When I bought my last new chainsaw, I bought local.
I get priority service, if I need any saw work done.

Had I bought the saw from a local box store, I would have a longer wait time. When you NEED your saw, every day in an eternity.
Besdies, the local shop carries stuuf and can order things the box stores CAN'T. That means alot too.

Only 30 minutes away....thats NOTHING compared to what I deal with. You can't go anywhere without at LEAST a thirty minute drive....thats not even to get to the "good stuff." You can get groceries and an oil change...but if you want anything else you better be ready for a ride.

Well, between going to college and having to work around that and having a vehicle that gets sub-par gas mileage it's a little more than I wanted. Besides, I got an ok job turning wrenches 10 minutes from home.

You got that right, I'd be broke before I knew it. Friday comes, check comes in, I go to the bank, cash it and spend it the next day at work.
