A Softball Friend Was Murdered

We were not close friends but we played together about 10 years 4 day/nights. He was the coach and first baseman.
He was always trying to get better players so every year he would get rid of 3 or 4 and try and get better. At the end we were really good.
We were getting ready to play the winner of the next game for the championship and it would be the 6th tournament we won out of 8 weeks.
I was playing catch with my daughter and the coach decided to let someone start that just pulled up that had not played the whole weekend.
I just told Mandy to put my stuff in my bat bag. We left and the was the last time i played ball. He did not understand why i was mad. He told me i am not taking you out.
I told him the 3rd baseman has been to every practise, every game and you are going to play someone that shows up for 2 games a month.
They found his body in the woods and he had been dead for about 1 year. They have no idea who did it.

I had read they found a body in Winston Salem but that is even further away from Dave.

I was looking around for news but they still don't know cause of death or at least not releasing the info.
I did not see where they say he was murdered the cops don't suspect foul play on this case.
I am thinking he was found in Weldon NC which is right beside Roanoke rapids.
The only problem i do not know his real name. He was called Jerry Harrell but i do not know how he spells his first or last name.
Jerry might be his middle name. I did not grow up with him i met him through softball.
