Tried a new shotgun today.

Arthritis and damaged rotator cuffs in both shoulders have made shooting difficult and painful the past couple years. I can't hold a handgun at arm's length and shouldering a long gun is nearly impossible. Recoil is excruciating on my shoulder with anything bigger than a 223. Really sucks.

I realized last year that I cannot work a pump gun anymore. Just can't do it. Sold my 22 pump and am selling my shotguns. Thought maybe a self loader would be better.

Bought a semi auto imported from Turkey. It was $240 from an auction so very reasonable. Big blade front sight and no real rear sight. May see if I can add a ghost ring. The barrel is 21" and it holds 5 rounds of 2.75 shells. Will accept 3" shells with one less capacity. Wish the mag was extended for 2 more rounds.

Anyway, I tried it today and it functioned fine, No pump to deal with. Recoil was painful. Never used an auto shotgun before so it seemed a bit weird.

looks like a decent gun for 250.00
I am sure some new ones may be better but thew old remington 1100 was a soft shooting auto as recoil goes , I would image with all the new guns there is a less recoil one out there a nice recoil pad would take away a lot of it and I have seen slip on shoulder pads to wear to reduce it even further ..
also my guess if called on to protect your self Adrenalin will over ride any recoil you feel ( short term anyway )

Mercury recoil reducer in the butt stock will help.

Do they make them in 20ga I wonder ? I have a older standard model Remington 1100 in 20ga. Soft shooter and allows me to at least go a few rounds as I also have a bad right shoulder and torn muscle in my right arm .

Since I am also in a wheelchair now ,I however will be selling all my long guns and just using a handgun. In my efficiency apartment I will keep my .44 Spl for a bed gun and I carry a Total Titanium revolver in .32 H&R. Not always easy to adapt , and I understand your issue all to well. Good luck - perhaps some low recoil ammo will cycle through your gun - worth a try , but just the weight and shouldering of the gun is part of the problem.

Is it recoil operated? If so its going to recoil more than a gas operated gun will.

That is why the 1100 was and is so popular they are very "soft" shooting guns.

For home defense inside a house a 20 is about as good as a 12 at close range(inside 40 feet)

Sorry to hear you are hurting Doc. Its been a tuff year for you.

    Doc,

Good for you. When I had a pinched nerve in my back my right hand/arm were miserable. I figured I would never shoot trap again. I borrowed my daughters 1100 20GA that I built for her when she was just a lass. It was so soft shooting that I tried her 1100 12GA that I built for her a few years later. It was really soft on the shoulder. If this gun is still too hard try the 1100.

I have a Benelli Super Black Hawk Eagle II that does not kick bad in 12 gauge but its a little pricey.
