Just bought a 1983 Ford T-Bird on the cheap, plans are to rob the fresh 302 out of it, do some tweaking and get that damn blasted 390 out of my 1979 F150.
The body on the T-Bird is good but I was originaly planning on scrapping it after I get all the good stuff off of it.
But wait, I got a shop, a welder, tons of tools and big ideas. Hmmmm [:o)]
That 390, wonder how it would work in that T-Bird? [;)]
Connect the frame rails, roll cages are cheap, that 390 with a set of 4:56s and tall tires with an automatic might just be a fun ride.
Decisions decisions decisions!!

Bill Elliot drove the hell out of them in the 80's.
I thought you were looking for a 351 W or M for that truck? The 302 will be nice in it but it will not have the torque you had with the 390. The good thing is the 302 is easy to find parts for and once you get rid of all the smog crap and get it breathing it will wind up.
I looked at the numbers and that year the 302 was rated at 135hp and 243 FT#'s of torque. With a little tweeking and some bolt on's you should be able to up those numbers at least by 15%
I think I would get the truck running and then see how you feel[;)]
