This axiom does not hold true in every state.
Some will die in hot pursuit
    And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
    Coming down the mountain

yep, some states let you narrow down the list some and then later pick from perhaps 4 or 5 crooked people.

I have a ten year old bumper sticker that reads "Limit Politicians
to 2 Terms, 1 In Office, 1 In Jail" Still getting honks and thumbs up when out driving. Back to the thread - for the last 40 some odd years I've been voting for the lesser of the two evils. Frustrating as all get out, but you gotta keep on doing the best you can.

Really? Which states does that statement not apply to?

In WA, for instance, you can write in a third evil of varying degree.

Think "TEA Party" and hold them accountable on ALL LEVELS local, state and federal at the ballot box. That is the last line of defense we have. The wrecking ball of government must be stopped.

True that, and I do it frequently. Sort of a "turd lite". Much like pizzin' on a forest fire, but hey, drink more beer.

There were two men talking. One wondered what his toddler would be when he became an adult. Well, his friend said to lay out a $20 bill, a drink of whiskey, and a bible. If the boy went to the money then he would be a banker. If the boy went to the whiskey then he would be a drunk. If he went to the bible then he would be a preacher.
So the father let the boy down from his lap. The boy went to the $20 bill, picked it up and tucked it in his Diaper. Gulped the whiskey down, and picked up the bible tucking it under his arm.
Oh My God!! Wailed his father. He's going to be a politician. [:(]

Politicians are crooked because Americans are--by and large--political idiots.

Your average American wants incredibly well-trained and respectful cops. Your average American wants schools that are full of excellent teachers who will help every child. Your average American wants the best military in the world with weapons that boggle the mind. Your average American wants first-class government health care (yes, the VA and Medicare are government health care).

And the average American doesn't want to pay for any of it. Your average American wants fantastic government services at rock bottom prices. And you simply can't have that. Sorry, but there are no free lunches in this world.

And politicians know this, and so they say they'll never raise taxes and will never cut the government services we all know and love, but simply by cutting "wasteful spending" we'll eliminate a huge national debt and a massive deficit. It's a lie, one anybody with a sixth grade knowledge of basic math knows, but if they tell the truth the public will howl with outrage.

Politicians are a reflection of the society they come from. Don't get mad at them. Get mad at yourself and your neighbors.

Clinton raised the state sales tax not once but twice in Arkansas in the name of improving the public schools and they are still full of incompetant teachers and administrators. Another more recent state politician pushed for a state lottery to fund higher education and that has failed to deliver as promised. So we have had two tax increases proposed by politicians and approved by voters that have failed to improve education in the state because of government ineptness and a nonfunctional funding source for higher education paid for by people who are mathmatically challenged.
