was out hunting last week and came across a funny looking little nut, on the outside it looked almost like a pear same shape and no splits like on a hickory nut. it was about the same size, slightly smaller, than a hickory nut. outside of the hull was solid, after cutting it off with amy pocket knife the inside looked exactly like a hickory nut only smaller. the squirells have eaten almost everything in the woods except these. could these be pignut hickory? I've never seen them before in my over 40+ years hunting. sorry not able to post pictures, don't own digital camera. any ideas
