If it's the can opener, there isn't a GI who didn't carry one on his dogtag chain. Unless he carried a P-51 which was the same tool but larger for more leverage. The Brits/Aussies have one they call the FRED which is officially the Field Ration Eating Device, but the troops justifiably call the F***ing Ridiculous Eating Device.

I have several of each. Use 'em, too.

Everybody tells me this ain't a P38. Say it's a P1 with alloy frame. But it says P38 right on the slide along with the name Walther and dated 1961 so I dunno. Supposed to be a former West German police sidearm but doesn't have any police markings on it (unlike my Luger that says Wolfsberg PD right on it).

Anyway it shoots just fine and feels much like a S&W Model 39 in my hand.

A byf 44 was my first service pistole. I was fourteen or fifteen.
MLK had just been shot and the natives were restless so my pop gave me the pistol.
We had no serious riots in Mobile, but I got to keep the pistol anyway.

I carried it on deployment to Alaska once in my LPA. Radar had brought his Star 9mm, so my crew had two of us armed. There were polar bears and we figured pistols were better than pencil flares if we went down.

I had one. I liked the feel, but mine was pretty shot out and was not accurate. More of a collector piece with holster and a medal. I sold it here for my first auction about 8 years ago.
