i made some homeade saurkraut a little over a month ago. today for supper we had homeade kraut, hotdogs, real mashed potatoes and homeade straw berry pie,, mmm mmm good. i was particulary pleased that my kraut turned out as it did. we used to make it when i was little but i never made any myself. and the best part is my skeptical wife said it was better than store bought![:D]

We use to make saurkraut when I lived on the farm growing up.
I still like it better than anything that comes out of the store.

My favorite is cooked with Italian sausage.

Would like to find a good recipe to make a batch this year. With my Mom and Grandfather gone. No one in the family remembers how it was made.

When I was just a boy my grandnmother used to make the most wonderful saurkraut. I've never found any that comes close to my grandmother's and as a rule I won't touch saurkraut.

It's because you can't find a good creek rock to hold down the cheesecloth nowadays. (the water is different)

My Mama used to make it when I was much younger. I hated it then. I haven't eaten it since I was made to over 30 years ago. I'd like to try some.

I could never get past the smell. It reminded me too much of my own flatulence. [xx(][xx(][xx(]
