Suspect Collan Sheppard appeared in court
Reporting from KPAX in Missoula

A Missoula man who's accused of stabbing a University of Montana student during an argument over drinking game rules has pleaded guilty as part of a deal with prosecutors.

Collan Sheppard, 24, of East Glacier appeared in court Monday and pleaded guilty to felony counts of Assault with a Weapon and Criminal Endangerment. He also admitted to misdemeanor counts of Criminal Mischief and Negligent Endangerment.

Prosecutors dismissed a more serious charge of Attempted Murder in exchange for the guilty pleas.

Prosecutors say in court documents that Sheppard stabbed Jerry Stewart, 19, of Butte in the abdomen and arm, while playing beer pong last September.

Sheppard is to serve a six-year term in the Department of Corrections and also must pay $100,000 in restitution.
