Dodge vs. Ford

The Ole'Dodge is gonna be paid in full soon...

And I'm thinking'bout getting' something... well... something a bit sportier.

While my beloved Dad was a Chevy man all his life...
I can't bring myself to buy into Gub'ment Motors.

I want a USA branded vehicle even though I realize there's truly not a single one made wholly in the USA anymore.

Because Ford didn't seem to buy into the Gub'Ments handout programs...
I'm leaning towards a Ford Mustang... But do love how the new Mopars look.

What says you?

Ford Mustang or Mopar Challenger or Mopar Charger.... Thanks for your feedback in advance! [;)]

Principles in life are important. Rewarding Chrysler and the Federal Government for stealing the Company from bond holders, giving it to the Unions, is not on my list of good things to do.

No matter how good my Dodge truck has been I would NEVER buy a GM or Chrysler product again, or at least one made AFTER the feds stole the companies.

Buy the Ford, sleep well at night.

After a hard days ride in the 'Stang... I'd be able to sleep real well. [;)]

How do you like rebuilding front ends at under 30,000 miles? Replacing heads at 40,000? Do you like being told that the problems are just intrinsic in the design, so there will be no more warranty repairs? If you do, go Dodge.

I would go Dodge if you can't buy Chevy. I'm a Chevy man myself, but have a Dodge truck, (got a deal I couldn't pass up) and it does a great job in the deep snow of the up north, MN. And I've had great luck with them and service from them.
I've just had bad luck with Ford vehicles and was not treated very well when it came to repairs at the dealerships. I tried a couple times, because my wife liked the looks of something, only to find that she is also fed up with their mis-treatment of customers when it came to standing behind their repairs, parts or service.
My rant/my bad luck with them.

new? Go Ford. Older? Go Chevy.

I'd go with the Mustang if you want a performer, Challenger if you want to look good while going fast in a straight line...

Mustang GT was declared equals with BMW M3 on a test track by some group.

IIRC Challenger did not fare well when Top Gear came to America, they said it was a typical drag-racing muscle car

CHP guys here don't have anyone of those problems. Their biggest complaint is they don't have anywhere to toss the perp other than in the trunk and that is a violation of his civil rights.

Same here, bpost. The Commander is now at 75K and going strong, and I am very happy with it. However, when I drive it into the dirt, it will be replaced with a Ford.

    Howdy retroxler,

Alot depends on your hight and weight. I'm 6' 1" and 254lbs and the Stang is just a little too small for me. I decided to buy a Hemi Challeneger and I ordered a white 6-speed stick shift car w/ a sunroof and after waiting 3 months for it it show up w/out any luck I bought a 2010 Dodge Ram QuadCab w/ a Hemi instead.

So, if you are above average size, which is 5' 10" and about 180lbs for a white male, you might want to consider the Challeneger over the Stang.

Fords have served me well for over 40 years now. My last truck F-150 went 200K miles. my present King Ranch has 90K with out any problems. Remember Dodge took bail out money also. Notice all the Givt. vehicles seem to be Dodge.. I wont but form any auto company that took bail out money.. Ford is my kind a of car..

Sorry still a Chevy man. GM has paid back the money it got from the bail out. It is back to being held by the stock holders.
Dodge on the other hand is now owned by Fiat! I consider Chrysler a foreign company.
Ford we never had luck with them.

I fail to understand how you can pass on GM for taking money yet still go with a Dodge, who also took money. On top of that Dodge isn't about to be Italian owned!

If you are deciding between Ford and Dodge, buy the Ford. I have a '91 Mustang GT that is my summer car. It has 176K on it, and I drive it HARD. The only things it has needed since new is tires, (lot's of them), and mufflers at about 70K. That car is hands down the best I have EVER owned, and I beat the crap out of it, because it is so much fun to do so. It has a 5.0L V-8, 5 speed, (with original clutch), and gets over 22 MPG around town, 28MPG on a trip if I drive easy. I also have a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 Hemi truck that is the biggest POS I have ever owned. It has 64K on it, and has had a rear end rebuild, ball joints upper and lower, all u-joints once and the rear shaft u-joints twice, all four brake rotors, rear calipers, e-brake cables, both exhaust manifold mounting bolts rotted off the truck and fell off, a muffler and tailipe, air conditioner blender controls twice at $850 each time, 3 O2 sensors, fan belt idler, two hood latches, a fuel pump, ignition switch, 5 injectors, an oilpan (that rusted out), a body control computer, one headlight harness, and continues to be a royal PITA to this day. If I could afford to I would use it for target practice. When it runs, it is fine, but it just seems to have way too many problems. Dodge has become, (after having had two OTHER Dodge trucks that were exemplary), a dirty word around here.

I also had a 1993 Ford full size Bronco that I traded in on the Dodge, (I want it BACK!!), that had 423,000 miles on it when I got rid of it. AND, the only reason I did trade it was I needed a truck to plow the 550 ft. long uphill driveway to our new house. That Bronco was also a superb truck. I didn't buy a Ford truck because the local dealer didn't have what I needed when I needed it so we went to Dodge. HUGE mistake!

money from the second bailout paid off the first bailout and taxpayer are subsidizing their hybrid sales to the tune of $7500 a pop so called tax credit...money is disappearing into the unions while original bond holders got told to take a hike & got ZERO for their investment...never another gm or dodge for me ....never ever

I would take the Stang over the Charger and I like both equal and I think the Charger is a bit faster than the mustang and Ford limits speed to 155.

I think dollar for dollar, the Mustang is the better deal.

GM and Dodge are still American companies. Buy A Ford truck if you want, but be prepaired to shell out big money on repairs. I drive an F-150 at work. Ever try to change a spark plug on a newer F-150? They break off and you end up haveing to take the head off to fix them.Ford has known about it for years, but does nothing to change things, and you pay big time.

The 'bomb plant' has a fleet of pickups to get around the site. For years they have been either Ranger or S10. 4cyl/auto. Dodge and Ford full size for sevice trucks. Since the bailout of GM & CHRYS in 09 ALL the p/u have been from those 2 brands. NO new Fords. The little S10/Rangers for riding around have been have been replaced by Chevy Silverado 4dr HYBRIDS at Fifty-Two Thousand a pop. The service trucks are Dodge 3500 Diesels.

Looks like Uncle Sugar is going the EXTRA mile for HIS Chillens.

l hear this is the SAME at other Govt sites for trucks [:(]

I have bought 2 new Fords in the past 2.5 years. An '09 Focus that has needed nothing except tires and oil changes for 62 K miles. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that they changed the 2.0 engine in them from a timing belt to a timing chain, so there is a $ 700 savings, assuming no maintenance interval for a chain drive.

I bought my '12 Stang 3 months ago. The 3.7 L 24 valve V6 with 305 HP. I don't buy cars to drive fast or impress anyone with HP numbers. My friend went for a good hard ride in it and said he was impressed by the torquiness, and this guy is hard to impress having driven many beefed-up V8's.

The quality ratings are not made-up data. Ford has risen to the top of the world in quality, surpassing Toyota. A new Challenger will get you LAID but may not get you home. A new Mustang will get you LAID and always get you home too . [:D][;)][}:)]

    Good intel...

Seeing as I don't need a vehicle for impressin' a new date... [:D]
The getting' home part IS imperative...

I keep goin' back in my mind that FORD took NO Gub'Ment Mo'Ney... BIG Plus.

    BUT...
I like the looks of the MOPARS and have had good service out of the Ole'Dodge.
I regularly drive 25k per year and now at 5 years... The Ole'Dodge has 135k on her.
AND I had an offer just last week at the dealership to buy it from me...
Their claim... They could sell it RIGHT NOW for $39,000...
Not sure if that's true or not... BUT, it DID make feel good.

With ALL that good history with my Dodge.... I'm STILL Leanin' towards the Mustang... [;)]

I have owned 3 fords and 2 dodges. I have never had a problem with any of the fords. I've had nothing but trouble with the dodges.

85 dodge ram, bought used in 91 with 60K miles traded in 1993 with 100K miles. Nickeled and dimed me half to death with too many problems to list. Was my first vehicle and loved seeing it in the rearview mirror as I drove off the dealership lot in a Ford.

93 Ford Ranger extended cab with 3.0L engine bought used in 93 with 6K miles traded in 2001 with just under 300k miles, replaced a starter wire terminal and routine maintainance. Good truck, hated to part with it but got an even better truck.

01 Ford Ranger extended cab with 4.0L engine bought new with 8 miles traded in 2007 with 240K miles, no problems just routine maintanance. Wish I had kept this one, but couldn't with a kid on the way.

03 dodge durango bought used with 40K miles in 2007 sold to a junkyard for parts in 2010 with just over 100K miles, decent vehicle for about a year and a half then several catastrophic failures eventually led to it being mechanically totaled. I Hated this vehicle, it was comfortable, the inside was nice but it didn't freaking work half the time, when it did work something expensive was about to break.

1980 F-150 crewcab bought used in 2010 with 270K miles. Just under 300K miles now and still in daily use. Have kept up with routine maintainance no problems except a little rust. Other than being a gas hog I absolutely love this truck.

My dad works for Mopar and has since before I was born, I was raised around mopar vehicles. I won't touch one with a 10 ft pole they are JUNK. Even my dad owns a ford. They look nice but looks don't keep them operational. I might go back to a dodge only if they offered a lifetime bumper to bumper unconditional warranty with free routine maintainance, free towing, and car rental. I'd still have 2nd thoughts about it, but would consider it if the price was decent.
