Any one here hail from there? London, Barren Fork (no longer there except cemetery), Harlan, Bell county and McCreary County?
Been doing some genealogy research on my Fils' mothers' side of the family. They are from all around the Daniel Boone Nat'l Forest. Wifes' grandmother was born in Barren Fork which is now contained within the Nat'l Forest. It was a coal mining camp. A rough bunch, she was half Cherokee. We are in the middle of verifying this claim.
That is some beautiful country with a boat load of history. The Cumberland Gap was one of the main gateways to the west. Caves, mountains, waterfalls, beauty!
We are now planning a trip to do further research and to just have some fun exploring.

And you will probable find a lot of Irish to.
There is a lot of Cherokee heritage around there. My great great great grandmother was Cherokee who escaped from the trail of tears. Family history used to run deep there, but the lack of jobs has pretty much scattered us all to the winds. I still have some family who still live up in the mountains though.
