good idea from Dodge Ram brand

Went to the Detroit Auto Show recently, have to say that I think Dodge/Ram has the right idea.
New trucks have cargo containers (called "RamBox") in the side panels of the bed...maybe the other automakers will copy this and it will do away with the horrible chrome cargo boxes in pickup beds...

driving behind one of those chromed horrors when the sun is just right is torture...I will certainly not miss them if the "RamBox" idea catches on with other makes [:)]

I've got those exact gloves, but they don't look that nice anymore.

Problem is It's a damn dodge. Last three trucks I owned were dodge rams and were/are pure crap. I have two and a half pages of dealer ship repairs on my desk right now. Been calling Chrysler Corp all week and they said all they could do is give me two free oil changes. I paid $1.200.00 in deductibles alone not to mention all the little things. Got 68240 miles on it.

Mine has these storage spaces behind each seat which are pretty good size.

How much smaller do those boxes make the cargo bed? That seems important.

Them are handy to keep a tow chain to pull out other brand trucks.

And I have several of those large grey toolboxes. They have been good to me.

Regarding sane notion of using the dead space on p/u trucks I'm all for it ... that ought should be the norm for all of them. And the buyer gets whatever set-up from the get go, no additional piecemeal BS costs.

Many of us have been too well trainded to expect to get little or nothing for our money when we make a new vehicle purchase. It ought to have every which way and thing included. Regarding the side storeage great idea that has been there but unused by the American vehicle manufacturers way too long.

Regarding the truck ... no Dodges or Chryslers lately and no pleasant memories of the ones that I had in an earlier lifetime.

it seemed to me that the beds of the trucks I did see were still of a decent size, but I did not take a lot of time in the Ram area, so don't quote me on that

... except for a topper! For a $1300+ option, I prefer the ones the goes over the wheel well, that's swings for easy access and is removable for just a tap over $200 like ... http://www.realtruck.com/swing-case-truck-bed-tool-box/ or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eE07IetnII0

... and still allows the option to put a topper ... and still remains functional.

Not sure about GM, but Dodge has had them for about three years now.

    Brother-in-law has a 06 or 07 avalanche with those.

Oops! Sorry, you said NOT to quote you![:D]

From the pics, it looks like you would lose 4" to 5" from each side. It could just be the pics though.

I had an 04 Avalanche, and the Dodge design looks a lot more functional. The cover on the Dodge opens wider, and the Avalanche compartments were really deep with a small opening, not very practical IMO. I missed my Avalanche, just because it rode really well, but the Dodge I traded it for was more practical.
