Probably the best book I've read all year: "War", by Sebastian Junger.
I'm headed down to Kansas City tomorrow to visit the National WWI Museum and catch "Restrepo" in a local theater. Here's the preview:

I spent a good chunk of time in the Korenghal valley back in 2001/2002. It's a nasty area and this movie captures the platoon level fight which defines the Afghanistan operational environment.
I just lost another friend in Afghanistan this week. We were friends in college and remained close over all these years. We were just bs'ing over email a couple of weeks ago about his top choices for the Battalion Command selection board.... he leaves behind two sons and two daughters.
