It's just a joke, he says...

"I have tremendous respect for McCain but I don't buy the war hero thing. Anybody can be captured. I thought the idea was to capture them. As far as I'm concerned he sat out the war."

Al Franken in an essay published in 2000.

Franken now claims it was a joke.

The only joke was the one perpetrated on America by the * voters in Minnesota who elected this half wit, commie, third rate comedy actor.

The moment he was elected, truly could have been the tipping point.

I do not remember ever hearing him say anything that wasn't a joke, so why would this be any different?

I'd like to ask his opinion again after he spent an hour or so in a little trick where they tied your wrists behind you, cinched your elbows together, and then hoisted you up off the floor by the rope around your wrists. Hanging there with your shoulders dislocated is not what I'd calling "sitting out the war."

hmm...one is a comedian who was obviously making a joke, the other is the darling of the right wing in the middle of a so called presidential campaign....

My respect for him flew out the window with his racist remarks about my people and my symbols...take that to the bank.
    What's next?

I respect McCain for his terrible experiences as a prisoner of war. However since his election, he has sold out to the money people. I would like to see the value of his estate since he was elected. Some of the votes he cast were against the principals he has expounded publicly.

In that context alone, he was most couragous to make it thru the imprisonment and torture alive and without breaking. That alone makes him a hero IMO.

Where did you find the info that says he didn't break? From what I've read he was one of the ones that voted to keep the prisoners of war records sealed. Why would he want those records sealed?

Franken is a liberal democrat, it is OK.

Just Al being himself, no big deal. People that put Al in the same category as Trump for making such comments are reactionaries and should be ashamed of themselves.

I don't know how much McCain broke under torture, but believe me, ALL of them did to one degree or another. If McCain voted to keep prisoner records sealed (and I do not know for sure about that) then it may have been completely as mark of solidarity that all POWs share. That is a brotherhood that none of us can even fathom, and that one member of it staunchly protects the rest is not at all a surprise.
