I bet the Generals that slobbed Obama's knob and destroyed the military from with in are far more nervous than ISIS. [;)]

Reading comprehension deficit strikes again. Not confirmed. Yet.

House and Senate did pass the waiver that will allow him to be confirmed. Big Zero has to sign it before they can vote to confirm.

Hmm. Didn't read anything in the article or for qualifications of SD about Obama's signature of approval for the President elects picks. I thought all you need is a presidential nomination,no less than 7 years retired from military active duty and an up down vote from the Congress and Senate.

The waiver has/had to be passed, before the up/down vote can take place.

Apparently, it was the waiver that just passed.

Mattis has not been retired from the Military for the required 7 years. Hence the needed waiver.

I think its BS, but from what I understand Truman put it in place in order to remove McArthur from play. (Maybe I'm wrong there?)

I'm sure someone will be along shortly to state so, if that is the case. [:D]

They should be sent to pull some duty at a few isolated post through-out the world......get them out of D.C [;)]. Early retirement would be a plus too [:)]

no, they put the requirement in place to ensure that the military is controlled by, and has oversight from, civilians.

there's sort of a catch-22 in that the ones who know the military best must be the ones who have served in it. the more and the most recent the better. but they should be removed somehow from its politics, untoward influence, cronyism, and the candidate's own self-interest.

What I find ironic about the whole "need a Civilian in charge of the Military, in order to not be warmongering."

Is that the LAST person who would put an American Military persons life on the line for a nonessential reason, would be in fact, a career Military person. (Much more so, than a Civilian with no sense of sacrifice, or hardship.)

    It boggles my mind.

I am SO happy, Mattis is going to be our man.

    A Soldiers Soldier.

Read up on him. THIS is the kind of guy we NEED in charge of the DOD. Very, very pleased with this pick. A phenomenal choice. Bravo.

    Agree completely, 84B.

BTW, Mattis absolutely detests the name "Mad Dog" that some people hung on him. In fact, he's the opposite, much like we tend to call huge people "Tiny". He's methodical, thoughtful, deliberate, and kindly.
