No racial descriptions in crime alerts?

The University of Minnesota has been asked by several groups to stop including race as a descriptor in crime alerts issued to the campus. Do you agree with that idea?[?][?][?]

    No, if the suspect is white, tell it. If the suspect is a negro, then tell all pertinent info to help .

    They have very recently begun reporting descriptions that are helpful.

    Had to laugh at a description of a murder suspect in cal recently.

    Two bodies discovered and they were searching for a third member of the group. Found body about 100 miles away. Now looking for a "person of interest" seen walking away from the car of third victim. Description of person - male, between 5 and 6 feet tall. ummm.

    If they have caught the person I could go with Eliminating the Race part. But if it is an alert to watch out for someone then its needed.

    STUPID PC....BS...maybe some mass murderer will get off by a liberal judge because his COLOR RIGHTS were violated by an alert....we need to STOP ...AMBER alerts....how can we whitewash all this nonsense ???

    I think you nailed it, sir! I teach newswriting, and I tell my students that race is irrelevant when it's irrelevant (like after the fact), but use it when it helps explain the story, PC be damned![}:)]
