i had one recently. there are a few different ways you can do it to determine cost. you can do the root work and pull the tooth and thats the cheapest. OR, you can do what i did and get a custom tooth like crown put in. mine cost about $2,100 total. it took 4 sessions and each one was a PAIN IN THE *.
if i had to do it over again and the tooth was one that wasnt very visible, i would just get it pulled and have it over with in one session and much cheaper

Sounds pricey- unless they are using that new super duper ceramic crown that they make on the spot in a few minutes with that 3D crown cutter? I had one, and it was Expensive!!!

pull the tooth, and if needed get a bridge,1500.00 3 visits about 3 months ago...nothing worst when the doc grinds the drill to a stop on your tooth, then comes the smell of burnt smoke...

So, you would likely not ask the clerk at the Wal-Mart Sporting Goods desk to diagnose and repair your gun. I would not recommend you take advice on root canal versus extraction from your buds, relatives, or acquaintances. if you can't trust your current dentist, I suggest finding a new one that you can trust.

Ask your dentist about the consequences of losing a tooth over the long term. it may not be so cheap as you think.

Root canal from a specialist is not cheap, but losing your tooth is no cake walk. Sure pulling it is temporary pain and the cost is relatively cheaper. Once you lose one tooth, it is a domino effect from there. Unless you are not planning on being around in 20 years I would not recommend the root canal and crown.

    http://www.dental--health.com/bone_density.html

There is a relationship between the tooth root and the jaw bone. if the pressure of the root is not there, the cells in the bone structure say "There is no tooth here, i have no reason to replenish myself" and the hole where the tooth was extracted gets bigger and bigger over the year. The teeth around it shift into this hole and can cause you to have jaw pain (search TMJ problems). If the tooth you lose is on the lower jaw, the tooth above it can come down out of the socket it is in, sliding into the open space below it. This can be hell on your chewing function.

You could get a surgical steel implant tooth root placed with a crown on top of it. usually cheaper to get the root canal and the crown. You can close the gap with a bridge (you are actually paying for 3 crowns at around $900 each for a bridge)

if you find a competent dentist, a root canal and crown can be a relatively easy process usually completed in 3 visits.

    best of luck to you.

I have had a couple of root canals. What the dentist does not tell you is that a root canal more or less kills the tooth and over a short period of time it will become brittle and break. When that happened to me I got a post and crown, which is attached to the ground down broken tooth with adhesive and the ground off broken tooth became too brittle to hold the post and crown and I have about $4000. in a tooth in the bathroom cabinet. My advice is to avoid a root canal if possible.

Check around. A typical root canal for a front tooth should be considerably less than one for a molar. Then the doctor's experience comes into play which might cause an increase of 50% or more. The dental business has become like the used car business where costs are concerned...so check around for the best price.

There are crooks in every field. Like I said, if you feel you can't trust your dentist, get a second opinion. Go to the specialist and do a consult before you do the procedure. Make him/her show you on the x-rays what they are looking at. If they use digital films they can blow it up big enough that even people like most of us that can't read them can see what they are pointing to.

You will for sure pay a premium for a specialist, but then again you will (likely) get the best care there. A specialist that does root canals, that is all they do all day. The tough ones for a general dentist that might take 4 hours, will likely only be an hour when performed by a specialist. How much is your time worth?

Couldnt get a root canal if I wanted one.
Medicaid wont pay for it and I dont have enough for one if I wanted one.

Any Dentist that takes medicaid will do only teeth cleaning, xray and simple stuff, anything more than that I'd have to pay out of pocket and getting any of the simple stuff is a 6 months wait to get to one.

Good luck on the root canal, I pray you recover swiftly from it.

all my life i've had bad teeth, something about too much fluoride when they first started it. spent a crap load of money on them. about 8 years ago went to dentist to get everything fixed. his estimate with root canals, caps, crowns, bridges, etc. was over 8000 dollars. i asked about dentures. he said a full set would be 1500 bucks. insurance would pay half. i got 'em and ain't been back to the dentist since. best dental/ financial move i ever made.

I still have all of my teeth, but around here I have heard 750 to 850 bucks to be fairly common for a simple root canal.

A root canal on a molar should run about 8-900 bucks here in the South, premolars-600, anterior teeth-500. oral surgeons do not generally do root canals, go to an endodontist. It is true that after a root canal the tooth is not viable and will need a crown. good health is expensive
