The farm pond and cornfield next to us has about 25,000 snow geese on it right now. Hunters are out and everytime a shot rings out it's like watching a blizzard! Yet they still sit back down on the pond. Fun to watch!

Western Iowa, about 40 miles from Omaha. Yes you can come up here and hunt. I could arrange it with the land owner.[:)]

a flock of 30,000 to 50,000 snow geese is a sight to watch. wave after wave at various altitudes moving to a place. and when they decide to sit down nothing stops it..my son and I was on the X MARKS THE SPOT 1 day when that happened. literally we reloaded a full 5 shots at least 6 times before the entire flock decided to leave. the high birds kept coming down the low birds were escaping up. we saw collisions and lots of near misses . ended up with about 65 birds that day between us. oh just to not mislead anyone we didn't shoot 1 bird with 1 shot. there was a lot of innocent bystanders shot and wounded[and retrieved] but a helluve a lot more misses

I saw a similar spectacle back in spring of '83. It was along I-29 in SW Iowa. Lots of cars were pulling over to watch the geese. They were feeding in a large cornfield or something with large groups continually landing and taking off, while thousands of others circled overhead. I have never seen anything like it before or since.
The geese were in no danger from me. When I was a kid I got 'lucky' and bagged a couple. Mom cooked them up but they were nearly inedible. I don't know what went wrong, but I have never shot been hungry enough to shoot another goose.
